After darkness I hope for light!

We have a small garden with a few trees and a lot of plant in our backyard. Yesterday evening I was relaxing on a lawn chair in our house garden when I heard a chirpy sound coming from a nearby tree. It was a sound that I had not heard before. I curiously looked around to locate the source but I could see nothing but bunch of leaves. The sound was constant for a few seconds and suddenly there was silence so I rested my head back on the chair, closed my eyes and was about to wander into the world of imagination.

The calm wind with the scent of autumn was breezing across the lawn, tickling the wilderness and making the grass dance on its tunes. The sun was in the last phase just getting ready to bid goodbye for the day. The birds in the sky were flying towards their home after a busy day of food searching and gathering for their little ones.

Just as I was about to enter the deep world of imagination, the chirping started again. This time it was more intense. I got up from my chair and moved closer to the tree, determined to locate the source. I came close to the tree and looked straight up. This time I managed to get a glimpse of a baby bird with a tiny beak. I was happy to finally locate the source but was puzzled by the constant chirping from the little bird. The bird was restlessly moving its head while continuously chirping. I kept my focus on the bird and wondered why it was so restless. I could feel the pain and morbid intensity in the constant chirps from the seemingly tired throat of the little bird.

A few seconds later there was silence again. The sun was about to set and darkness was setting in quickly. Finally darkness took control and I was not able to get a clear view of the bird. Was this the silence of failure or was it the silence of success, I wondered. The ambiguity in my mind still remained unsolved.

As I turned away to go back into the house, the chirping started again. To my amazement, this time I could hear two coherent chirps from the same spot. It was the most synchronous and the sweetest of chirps I had ever heard. The melancholic tone had been replaced by the sweetest of sounds. I looked towards the spot and smiled as I could feel the positive energy flow.

Ironically, the darkness of nature brought brightness back into the life of the little bird. I walked back whistling all along into my house. A new ambiguity took control over my mind. What was the reason of happiness? Did the bird find a companion? Was the bird united with its mother or father who brought back food for the little one? Whatever it was, the fact that happiness was restored in the end made my day.

There was a lesson to learn from this experience. Sadness and sorrow are only temporary. They are bound to be replaced by happiness and harmony. So folks don’t worry, be happy always!
