I once take it too Maximum 110kmph on NH 58 Delhi-badrinath highway, at 8000rpm. it was very stable at that speed & i feel confident at that speed too., but i very rarely cross 70kmph.my speed range is always 50-70kmph on highways.

many people say unicorn is lacking in performance compared to other 150 cc models. I disagree. When the engine is at its operating temperature it just glides away in any gear. It increases the speed in a smooth fashion and not by a sudden jolts of acceleration as in pulsars and apaches. The... cylinder walls cools down so quickly because of the two way air jackets that you have to warm up the bike after it is kept idle for even 2-3 hours. but once it is warmed up nicely than the performance is simply amazing that too with great mileage .Read More

Dear you haven't mention anything about pickup/performance etc. in the performance section??. I'm also having Honda unicorn for the last 19 months ridden 8400 kms. To me it's a wonderful machine having excellent performance along with excellent mileage. It is having a smooth pick up rather than... a a jolted pick like pulsars. it's almost a zero maintenance bike for me.Read More

@ Kickstarting, lol!,, well friends Unicorn needs a gentle kick to start. Its not good neither useful to kick it much hard. My unicorn starts in a single kick without using choke in mornings(Its better not to use electric start when the engine is cold) , it gives hiccups initially, that's normal,... keep Engine at fast idle of 1500-2000rpm till the throttle response become crisp. and that is all. Also do not use the accelerater while starting a cold engine in the mornings. use it gently when the engine is started (1.5-2k rpm), and also do not use choke for longer periods say more than 30 seconds. Thank youRead More

@ bhatiajay . ’’ok.....we agree with you......honda is intelligent....................rest are fools..............lol’’ Why rest are fools?, they are giving tough competetion to honda and other manufature also by giving extra features except good engine like honda . Now in my opinion since ...Bajaj do not have the guts to made a engine like honda they have put razor sharp tails, backlit switchgears, side stand light, stupid self cancelling indicators(have you found it on any other indian bike?) front disk brakes on even a 100 cc bikes to sustain its sales . Bajaj have no concern about quality, thats it. Huge no. of upgrades and still no refinement .Read More

Yes benn, i think if unicorn is driven at 40-45 kph speed in top gear than you can get mileage of above 60kmpl.

@ mr bean : Always wear a good quality helmet and ride at speeds that you can get control on ,no matter whether it is 20kph or 100kph ,control and confidence on aparticular speed is important while riding. Happy riding bro!!!.

@ mr Bean , From my experience ,if your machine is in perfect health than.. On highways if you ride constantly at 4000rpm (speed wil be about 51-52 km/hr) you can get 58-60km/l. At 65-70 km/hr ----around 55km/l. at 80km/hr ---48-50km/l 90-100kmhr ---don't know , ride only twice for 4-5 mi...nutes, haven't calculated the mileage but the experience that i have felt at 100km/hr was so amazzzzzing that i can never forget. CASE OF WORST MILEAGE--- IF YOU RIP YOUR BIKE INSIDE CITY THAN YOU WILL GET A LOW FUEL EFFICIENY OF ABOUT 40-45 KM/L. THE LOWEST I GOT TILL NOW WAS 47KM/L.(EXCEPT BEFORE FIRST SERVICE ,THAT WAS 40KM/L) Hope it helps.Take careRead More

Dear first take care of 'run-in' period. after 2000kms or 3-4 services it becomes smoothand you will not hear the sound of engine even at 100km/hr. one thig more from my huge experience regarding mileage: Mileage is a highly variable type of thing , it hugely depends upon the way the rider is ridi...ng it. Anyway congrats for getting the 'VANILA'.Read More

For all who wants maximum performance ,good mileage, longer engine life::--- I advice all wing riders to warm up the bike properly when the engine is cold (shut off for more than 6 hrs) before riding it .When properly warmed up i feel super smooth acceleration, ride quality and gear shifting.

As i mentioned earlier regarding mileage(i fill the fuel from the same petrol bunk always) i got around 54 in city and upto 59 on the highways consistently using 91 octane extra premium. Do check the readings on the pump carefully the petrol pump attendents may fool you dude, so be careful, do not t...ake your eyes and mind away from them and the meter.Read More

@ mr. bean. Dear i will advice you not to cross 4000 rpm at any cost before 1000km(for long engine life and better efficieny). At 4000 rpm in 5th gear speed is about 51-52km/hr. Regarding fuel:--I’m using Indian oil extra premium for the last 1 year. initially i used normal one but i feel great... smoothness when i fill this premium petrol from IO. its octane number is 91. Please read the manual page no 18 ,righthand side, bottom. It is clearly written that use petrol of RON (Reasearch Octane Number) 91 or higher. Please make sure this.Goodbye. have a nice day.Read More

Yes right, it does lack sudden pick but dude the overall performance is impossible to be beaten by any 150 cc except the costly R15(rs.1 lakh !!!!!!). I have made a 285 kms trip two times in single single days on my unicorn without any pain or stress. It just glides on the roads with great control... and stability. At speed of 70 i just heard the sweet sound of air(if open the visor of helmet) and feels like flying else nothing is heard.LOL!!!... Read More

Hey bean, do try to avoid the stop and go traffic(extremely dense traffic /jammed conditions) initially as it may overheats the engine as you have keep accelerating ,decelerating ,changing gears, applying brakes which results in overheating the engine , specially in summers.

@ mr,. bean, Oh ya I feel as i am driving a car not a bike , amazingly butter smooth and powerful enough , smooth even at 100km/hr. It gives me 54-55km/l mileage inside city and 55-58 km/l on highways (if i maintain 50-70 km/hr. speed) Done 7700 kms ,and nearly 1.5 years, 3 services, 3 oil(ho...nda 20w40) changes..Read More

@ mr. bean Good stuff dear. After reading so many reviews stating the long delivery periods of Honda unicorn it seems to me that i’am one of the few lucky persons to get the Honda Unicorn In a single day (ie on 28.03.2010)!!!. some say 48 days some 6 months some 4 months ?!!!..

@yogesh4984 Dear I foundit extremely strange that you have got confused between a ' UNIQUE GEM(UNICORN)' and a 'Rubish'(Pulsars), According to your requirements Go for Unicorn , Its the least or i should say the zero maintenance bike having a extremely good built quality of each and every part.... As far as the engine is considered -- No other engine of any bike in india is able to beat the reliabilty and smoothness of this engie for the last 7 years. My elder brother i both have unicorn, he has 2007 model , i have 2010 model no issues at all till now. I have tested in all terrain in very heavy rains it never gives any trouble to me.Read More

Excellently thought buddy. 100 % agree with you. Also mind that all the engine in hero honda bikes are honda engines, that why they are reliable machines, hero only cares about paint and sticker job. I too own Honda Unicorn for the last 1.5 years and i can say that is a GEM. Super smooth ride qu...ality, smooth gear shifting , excelent mileage in its class, excelent handling and braking .want to hear more fom you,Very interesting write up from you. Cheers!!Read More
