Ashraj - A Star offer some goodies like music system with speakers which Alto doesn't. If you do an apple to apple comparison on price, the difference is 25,000 only. However, if it is your first car I suggest you go for Alto K-10. You will obviously try to impress your family and friends taking the...m on long drives and the A-Star boot space will disappoint you. That's the reason why you don't see many of them on road. It is a CITY car and a little luxurious than Alto K-10 in interiors, seats, driving pleasure etc. Good to have it as a second car.Read More

Pranesh - If it is your first car and the mileage is a primary concern for you, go for Alto K-10. Being lighter, it should give a KM more per litre than A-Star. It is a good car in other aspects too. My city mileage with A-Star is rather disappointing- 12kmpl. Swift used to give me almost same milea...ge, 11.5 - 12.0Read More

Same experiece with me with battery of Hero Ultra. After 5000 kms the batteries bulged and by that time the dealer who originally sold the bike was out of business. THe new dealer said the wrong supply of charger was the reason for battery bulging. After much of deliberation, the new dealer changed ...the batteries free of cost. But they also ran out of power when the speedometer was at 7600 kms (Just 2600 kms). The replacement cost Rs.10,000 against what was told to me at the time of purchase, Rs.5,500. Now the bike is in my basement waiting for a taker or for new batteries. Thinking of going for local battery from E-Bike of Bangalore instead of cheap Chinese make batteries used by Hero Ultra. Just calculate the running cost. It is more than Rs.1.30 per KM. Better go for a petrol run 2-Wh.Read More

Hi - I couldn't do a mileage (Average / fuel efficiency) test for a city driving so far. The first servicing is over and I will be doing it shortly (Interestingly the first service cost me 'Zero' rupees as there wasn't oil change even! I was surprised!). However, before the first service I could tak...e in on a long drive (200KMS) to a jungle lodge near Bangalore (Bheemeshwari) and it gave me 18.2 kmpl with 60% A/C on. Driving was good, over taking was easy, amazing engine response (I felt it is better than the old petrol Swift sometimes) and confortable with 3 adults + 1 kid on board. Only thing I didn't appreciate was the suspension. I should not compare it with that of Honda City but I felt Swift is better in this segment. Otherwise I did not miss Swift at all. Yes - There is height adjustable driver seat which is a big plus. Musice system is just enough for a city driving (Again I cannot compare the sound quality with that of Honda City). VXi comes with two front speakers only. However, you can fit 2 speakers on your own on the rear doors in VXi. ZXi comes with 4 speakers but the sound quality is not the greatest. 60:40 split seat is the only thing I would have wished in the A-Star which is not there.Read More

Congratulations Prince - Last week of every month is the best time for bargain, generally! Every dealer will be under pressure to clear the stock and to meet the targets. So, shop around among dealers. You may find your choice of color READILY available with one of the dealer. That's the place to ba...rgain. Tell you want to take delivery of the car immediately (make sure you have your finances ready) and hence looking for freebies. You may get lucky! Sun film and body cover won't cost more than Rs.3000. Not a good deal :( MGA (Maruti Genuine Accessories) accessories sold by Maruti dealer are generally expensive. I suggest, you go to Reliance AutoZone if you have one in Chennai, for alloy wheels and LCD. They have good brands, reasonable price and good discounts. They do free installation too. Welcome to A-Star family!Read More

Thanks Deepak. Read the alst sentence of my review - Excellent city car for 4 people and a good highway car for 2 people with lots of luggage :). A-Star is (my opinion): a) An excellent city car. Good choice as a second car provided you have another big car for long drives with family ... b) Rear seats are good enough for average Indians' but for city ride only < 30km in a stretch. Rear passengers cannot stretch their legs :( c) If you are the only passenger driving a car for 350 days in a year (Home-Office-Home), this is the car for you. Good features, good fuel efficiency, driving comfort and small size. d) It is also good for those who are young at heart or age and for couples - Not only in city but even the long drives. Read More

I bought New Honda City 1.5 S MT in July -2009 with just one worry - Low ground clearance. Read several reviews & took opinions about ground clearance from friends who own it, before buying - everything turned out to be negative (160mm road clearance as good as the Alto). But all other good factors ...Read more
