Who/what creates a terrorist?? Money is not the motivation, where money can only give birth to murderers. The seed for a terrorist is always laid on the land of the oppressed. When justice is denied, Rights are grabbed and mesmerised with false philosophieswounded emotion is the only capable lady to give birth for a terrorist. Brutal interrogations, death of the dear ones, loss of life song savings – anything which is capable of hurting the emotional bond human beings believe worth living for and dying for – the seed of a terrorist grow faster in such situations.

Ex-Pakistani President Parvez Musharaf once told that we cannot stop the tree of terrorism from growing. “You cut a leaf and another leaf will be born. You cut a branch and another branch will grow from its cut. You cut the body and the tree will again grow.” Then what we do?? For a tree to die, its roots should be cut. The body, branches or leaf cannot live with the support of the roots. Like the roots of a tree the roots of terrorism too hide from the surface. The way they ship and move money, men and resources are most hideous in nature. Not many attempts are made to find the roots of the terrorism and the rare few managed to find the roots were incapable or helpless to cut them. The result? Terrorism is been used as a weapon. They continued the torture and the act of denying justice so that the flow of terrorists is not stopped.

They simply cut your wings and say it was for bringing freedom. They intrude your privacy and say it is for your safety. They treat you like a dog, but will say the rights of each individual are protected. They spit on your arguments and seal your mouth. There is no way you can escape from the black clutches. They will use black cloth, representing their attitude to hide your vision. You will be handcuffed from behind and they will take you to unidentified places but will say you are a free citizen in the free country. They promise you of a free tomorrow but the tomorrow never comes – not for you, or for your children.

There had many doubts circulated in blogs and SMSs about how the twin towers were destroyed. There had a video spam as well, which said in fact it is not two towers but three destroyed during the 9/11. How this was done or by whom? The world is still in dark, but evident after evident the roots of the plant are getting stronger and reach to the handle of axe which the wood cutter carries. New York is showing a sample how, though not telling it so. How far one can sit closing the eyes and say the world is not seeing it all?

‘New York’ is a story of friendship between Umar (Neil Mukesh), Maya (Katrina Kaif) & Sameer Sheikh (John Abraham). A triangle love story episode, which comes to its climax on 9/11. Some were victims of the incident and some were trapped after 7 years to lead a way. Finally the friendship end a false dream of a revenge like the false promise made to them.

John Abraham was excellent in the film with good screen presence. Neil Mukesh shown that he is not a single movie wonder and lived right on expectation. Katrina Kaif did her part well. Irfaan Khan as an FBI officer made his presence felt and he even brought some smiles across the faces in between the serious proceedings.

Songs were adequate, BGM was impressive and choreography average. Cinematography was excellent, editing could have been better.

Two points which I felt reduced the impact of the film:

1. Scenes after the firing at the climax, which diluted the impact of the message the film conveyed till then.

2. FBI has shown as an organization arresting and permitting brutal torture on people who simply have some doubt. Later, the same FBI permitting the real suspects to live happily is not believable. The FBI has all evidence, location and every detail about the gang members. Still they assign an Indian Muslim officer to lead the interrogation and wait and wait to see their plan only loosen the script.

On the plus side:

1. The subject was treated nicely, making sure that it is not a dark movie like other movies on such subjects.

2. Screen presence of the cast and performance.

3. The courage to take the risk to talk on such serious subject worth more than applauds.

Overall, the movie is a well made one which holds the suspense to an extent. However, the loop holes in the script and the pace of the film reduces the impact. Definitely worth a watch; Not necessarily more!

My rating: 3.5 stars
