One important tip while catching is always allow the ball to come to you and do not snatch at it because the ball most of the times travels in air of the bat at a considerably good speed and when you snatch at it with force the ball bounces off your hand. Therefore always 'Give' with the ball as you... receive it. For catching always remember like forces ripple and opposite forces attract. Fielders positioned in the outfield or 'deep' usually have to take high catches. Here one should approach play in a balanced and aggressive manner. As the ball is played the fielder should be perfectly balanced, in a low crouched position with the head still and eyes level. Experience may allow a certain amount of anticipation. The fielder should assess flight of the ball and move quickly of the feet to a position underneath the ball. Keeping the head as steady as possible the fielder should steady under the ball and prepare hands, which are at or above eye level. Spread fingers; little fingers touching parallel to the ground. Knees flexed; hands relaxed. Catch made at eye level or above and follow through with hands close round the ball and 'give' to chest. ALWAYS REMEMBER LIKE FORCES RIPPLE AND OPPOSITE FORCES ATTRACT A RUN SAVED IS A RUN MADE CATCHES.WIN MATCHES Read More

FIELDING AND CATCHING Most young cricketers are of the opinion that fielding is of least importance when it comes to a cricket match. And therefore they do not feel in necessary to practice during practice sessions. One criticism leveled at cricket is that it is boring for those not directly involv...ed in the action i.e. the fielders. But if fielding is approached correctly and in the right attitude it is an exciting, enjoyable and challenging aspect of the game: one that can have a major effect on the competitive outcome. Today's youngsters should practice fielding with the same intensity and duration as for batting and bowling. THROWING & CATCHING The ability to throw with ACCURACY and POWER is important for any and every fielder. Correct throwing technique should be observed in all fielding practices which involve throwing. Always hold the ball comfortably across the seam with thumb underneath. The grip should be established as the fielder balances and prepares to throw. Fix your eyes on target. Your back foot 90 degrees to the direction of the throw. Your front foot toe to point in the direction of your target. Long, straight stride establishes firm base. Align upper part of front arm with target and throwing hand completing a long back swing and follow through. Now you might ask me a question, Why should your grip on the ball be across the seam and not along side the seam when you through the ball? When you grip the ball along side the seam and throw it towards the target intended, more often than not the ball tends to swing in the air and goes off target and reduces the chances of a run out. When the ball is new the ball swings even more. That is the reason why one should grip the ball across the seam before throwing towards the target. Read More

STUMPINGS The Wicket Keeper when standing up to the wicket to spin bowlers and slow medium pace bowlers always have an upper hand to give there team a brake through by stumping the opposition batsman even with the slightest mistake the batsman does by leaving the popping crease. For the wicket keep...er to be a very quick and accurate stumper he should follow the following: 1. Body balance and positioning as mentioned in the Technique column. 2. When a right hand batsman is beaten outside the off stump, always practice collecting the ball in the web between the thumb and index finger of the left hand and visa versa on the right hand web when the batsman is beaten on the leg side. The reason to practice this is when a right hand batsman is beaten on the off side; your left hand is closer to the stumps than the right hand. So the time taken for the left hand to break the stumps is faster than the right hand and visa versa when a right hand batsman is beater on the leg side. 3. Always ensure after the take, to transfer the body weight towards the stumps to quicken the action of the stumping. When standing up to the wickets, the leg side takes are always very difficult than the off side takes, simply because the batsman is between you and the traveling ball. Due to which your visibility becomes nil. In such circumstances easy takes down the leg side can be ensured if your body from the pitch from the pitch of the ball and this can be perfected only out of practice. If raising your body from the pitch of the ball is not practiced you will end up either giving away byes or missing a stumping opportunity. Read More
