The most striking thing to me about this film is that it's a better movie when you know the context of the time and who made it (like a wannabe Crucible). But, so far, the only connections I could grasp between From Hell and the subject matter of the Hughes Brothers' other films, (drugs, prejudice ...from authority figures, a distinct class separation) were simplistic and obvious. I'm misquoting, but some wise man at some point said that all good writing comes from the nightmares, not the daymares. That line of thinking falls in with my own ideology and likewise makes this book intriguing enough to check out.
