your take on the biriyani is right on, i come from thrissur which is the home of sapphire biriyani, also ive had noorjahan biriyani (palakkad), sagar biriyani (kozhikode) , naushad the big chef has pretty ordinary biriyani compared to all this..i wouldnt even call it biriyani! it only suits the crow...d who go there for style.
