Imesh is software that is downloaded at imesh.com. It is free to use but read the whole of my review before downloading it.

The Search Facility

Without the search button it would be impossible to find what you are looking for. The search is quick and allows you to search in one or more search areas. If an item is not found it says, ‘No Match Found.’ The search results provide the user with enough information to go ahead and download the file. This includes: the user they are downloading from, the file format, the file name, description, download time (estimated) and length of the file if it’s audio or video.

The Traffic

Thousands of people are online at the same time, downloading or uploading. The traffic feature is better than Kazaa as there is no participation level that slows the rate of your download down. Instead if there is only one user that you are downloading a file from, the speed is slow yet when more users appear the time remaining decreases and the speed increases. So, basically the traffic feature tells you what you are downloading, or what another user is uploading from you, how much time there is left, the speed and the file name. You are able to cancel downloads by clicking on the traffic tab and also clear, pause, resume downloading items.

Instant Chatting

Whilst downloading, users get bored from waiting and waiting. So Imesh has included a chat feature that allows you to chat with your friends whilst the file(s) are being downloaded.

Media Player

Imesh’s package comes with a media player included so that users can play their audio and video files. The cinema for the video files allows the user to change the screen size for the video playing. Apart from that the cinema stores the files that are playing so that you can access them using the shortcut.

Links

A new feature has been added that now allows links to your favorite songs, lyrics, movies, radio stations, CD covers and weekly-featured artists.

Media Filter

Since children get into the wrong hands on the Internet sometimes and download offensive content and viruses, Imesh has a filter that blocks this and parents may also choose to set a password on the software.

Media Manager

This is the folder where your files are stored on Imesh where you are able to organize your files under the different categories, video, audio, images etc… When you are not running Imesh the files are stored in a folder called My Downloads unless you have changed the name.

Sounds Good?

WAIT!

I downloaded Imesh myself and thought it was extremely good and better than Kazaa until I spotted the huge amounts of spyware that had come bundled with it. I searched my computer and found over 303 files of spyware and where did it come from? Imesh!

Let Me Explain…

Companies that are free come with adware/spyware bundled in with the software that you download. Imesh included Common Name, NewDot.Net, Gator (GAIN) and others. I was checking my C: Drive and I didn’t even know why these folders were there. Ads/Spyware collect information about you from your computer, you searching the Internet without you knowing and send it to other companies so you start getting junk mail in your inbox!

Futhermore, if you have a low Microprocessor PC system then when you open Imesh instead of running it crashes the computer and many error boxes appear. I have too suffered from this problem and lost my work, as I had to restart my computer.

Not only that, but with the vast majority of file sharing software general surfing on the internet becomes extremely slow and you have to quit Imesh for it to return to normal.

Overall, I wouldn’t go for this product, it messed up my PC and I was left having to re-format it to get rid of all the spyware!
