''a guy's locked up for 14 years and suddenly let free.. and has 4 days to find out why''

a description like that has gore written all over it. why would any sane guy spend time and money to go to a theatre and watch a movie like that? well, if like me you drove with your friends to the theatre at 10pm hoping to watch bluff master and didnt find tickets for anything else, you probably would too. atleast the movie doesnt fail to meet your expectations. and to give it some credit, it is quite watchable.

the first half of the movie is predominantly a one-man (and one-room) show. it does a good job of keeping you baffled, and dutt does a good job of looking frustrated. and unlike what you'd expect, it ISNT the locked up part thats gory. you actually start looking forward to the second part, hopes lifted, expecting action-packed car-flying sequences. and that's where you're headed for your big disappointment.

the second half has needless gore. on the action front, well, if a guy walking around hammering random anatomy of random people with a nail hammer is your idea of action, there's plenty. the pace is inconsistent and the romantic angle with lara was entirely unnecessary. the very least you'd ask for is one proper fist-fight between the 2 protoganists. but no, you dont get it.

if the lack of explosive action is to promote realism, the screenplay certainly doesnt promote any; none of it is remotely believable. so what you do get is half-baked gore, half-baked action, half-baked romance and even some half-baked comedy. the technical quality is good, and is probably the only thing that keeps it bearable. the background score is sufficiently haunting and appropriate. I kept howling it on the drive back, inviting blows from a female friend, who incidently spent atleast 20 minutes of the movie sitting with her eyes shut tight, hands covering them to boot.

celina's cute, but give the movie a miss if you're going for her. her screen presence is limited to all of 10 minutes. john looks sharp and stylish, but does little else. lara is unconvincing, as are all the characters save dutt. the poor guy seems as lost with the madness of the movie as you and me.

watch the movie if you find yourself stranded in the theatre with nothing better to do. else, i'd pass.
