Yuva is good and different. Review on Yuva - Bollywood

THE GOOD

The concept: you might say politics has been a tried and tested theme in bollywood. but wait, there is a difference here. In normal b-wood politics movies the hero battles against a corrupt politician or the entire system using violence and after a bloodbath everyone lives happily ever after. Here the protagonists fight fire with fire. i.e., politics with politics!!

The three male leads and rani: have done well. I thought ajay would never pass for a college student but he does brilliantly as the rebel Michael mukherjee who leads college students and fights the ?system?.( I still feel aamir khan would have done a better job)

Bachchan jr. has done the role of Lallan Singh very well. Lallan would do anything for himself and lives by his own rule: i.e. don?t follow any. Lallan has these extreme mood swings. One minute he is a cruel, macho, angry young man and next minute you find him repentant and weeping. A role tailor made for Bachchan senior in his prime but Abhisek does his stuff well.

Vivek Oberoi as Arjun who has his eyes set on flying to the U.S against the wishes of his father who wants him to be an I.A.S officer. He meets Kareena at a disco and they spend a lot of time together( a little too much for the viewer as kareena is nuthin more than a prop in the story )However meeting Michael on the bridge changes Arjun?s life.

Rani plays Lallan?s wife to perfection. She suffers a lot at the hands of Lallan but forgives everything until the finale when she releases all her anger in one emotional outburst.

Also Sabu Cyril the art director has brought Kolkata?s beauty to the fore. At one point in the movie arjun says ? now even kolkata looks beautiful?. It really does. What I liked was how the director used the cloudy weather in Kolkata to the fullest it gives u the ?silence-before-the-storm? feel to it.

THE BAD

Both kareena and esha are nuthin but props in the movie and their roles could have been shortened

They don?t show the elections which is a shame since they could have built up the expectations.

Kareena returning back to arjun when she sees him on t.v that is an absolutely ludicrous reason to return to him.

THE UGLY

My nominations for the ugly part : when Abishek removes a wheel cap from a moving car and hits arjun in the final fightand the fact that abishek wasn't able to land even a single punch on ajay devgan during the fight. Micheal becomes superman in the at the end.
