Do you really like Rooh Afza ? Lots of people don’t. Neither does Kabir ( a.k.a Bunny) Thapar ( Ranbir Kapoor) , who lives with his doting father and step mother but is forever planning to pursue a dream profession as a travel journalist. And who says you don’t know any Naina Talwars (Deepika Padukone) in your life ? The “ nerdy to masti” girls ? And how many sweet Aditi’s (Kalki Kochlin) hearts have been broken by their partners where “the relationship was only about them?” And who hasn’t met a down-on-his-luck-who-can’t-get-his-head-sorted Avi (Aditya Roy Kapur) ?
So basically the movie starts on a pretty realistic note, almost waiting for you like a magic carpet near your feet, one corner fluttering in the breeze ( the opening scene where Naina and Aditi meet after college) ..You gingerly step on it as the 4 characters step into a train which takes them on a trip to Manali where they discover each other and themselves. Aditi is wondering about Avi’s place in her life and he is feeling betrayed about Bunny not sharing the news of the latter’s admission to the graduate school in journalism at the Northwestern University. Avi has just interrupted a tender moment between Naina, who has discovered her free bird side with Bunny, who had no plans of falling in love and settling down in the first place. By now you are drawn to the vortex of the film. 8 years on, Naina has completed her medical studies and works at a clinic, Bunny is a hotshot television cameraman for a travel and living show – something he always wanted.
They meet again, this time at Aditi’s wedding to Taran ( Kunaal Roy Kapoor – yes both the Balan devars star in this one! ) a bit of an awkward character but someone who now Aditi is devoted to because he has taught her what love is. What about Naina did you ask ? She had her moment taken away once, Bunny is still non-committal as before so what’s the point? But then as they say “ love will find a way”….and it does

of everybody’s worrying but doting dad by Farooque Sheikh
Of every lucky guy’s doting but insecure girlfriend (in the first half and fiancee in the second) by Kalki Koechlin
Of an awkward but likeable character by Kunaal Roy Kapoor
Of one of moviedoms rare “real” characters, who makes you sympathize with him even as you know he needs his head sorting by Aditya Roy Kapoor
Of one Ms Transformation – Deepika. She handles her scenes like a mature pro that she is, keeping completely in line with the demands of the character. No over dramatization there
Of Bunny the lost soul, by Ranbir.Ranbir touches you somewhere. Either you or someone you know is a bit like him. He connects.
The music for a change is good, my favorites being “ Badtameez dil “ and the holi song. The direction is slick and not sugary, the story keeps you engrossed.
So stop reading this review. Go SEE it !
