Dear Bikers!

After a long wait, Yamaha has brought an affordable bike at a price which would not raise many-a-eyebrows.

With 153 cc power, the SZ-R is a fun to drive. Till a few months back, this bike was rare to be seen on Indian roads. But now one can easily spot one without waiting for long.

Priced at Rs 67, 800 to Rs 68, 300(In Mumbai. Other parts of the country it is Rs 2, 000-3, 000 cheaper) it fits exactly between Pulsar 150 and Apache RTR 160. Pick up is superb, so guys rest assured at traffic lights provided you are good bikers.

Those, who are planning to go buy this bike, can easily go for it without giving a second though. Seats are comfortable. Back pain is minimal(unless it is a ride of over 75 km in one go). Rear seat is enjoyed well by young wives or for that matter girl-friends(for the unmarried ones).:-)

Now some basic points, you need to consider after buying SZ-R.

Make sure, till first service(till 1, 000 km travel) don't run the vehicle beyond 60kmph. I understand, powerful engine will tempt riders to map up speed upto 110 kmph. But please keep yourself under control.(for that matter 60kmph is not a bad speed)

If you manage to run between 40-60 kmph for the first 1000 kilometers, SZ-R will be forever yours. Trust me. Else, the engine will only develop noise and vibration and you will be forced to rush to the service centre soon after purchasing.

On the city roads of Mumbai, SZ-R delivers 38-45 km/litre. However, once it goes on the long ride on highways(for that matter - Mumbai-Pune expressway or Mumbai-Nashik NH - 3) SZ-R delivers a mileage of 50-55 km per litre.

Remember, rear wheel needs to have 33 points(Air Pressure) and front(29 points).

The only demerit is its TVS Tyres. Could be dangerous at higher speed if you are taking even a slight turn. Beware of water spilled over the road. It can bring you down even if you are riding at as low as 10 km per hour speed. While slowing down, take both the brakes. Since front one is a disc brake, make sure you don't press the front brake hard. Else, your chances of skiding is inevitable. Would suggest, change of tyres. May be ceat, dunlop's or MRF tyres will prove better.

It's only after 90 kmph that the bike starts some noise but one can easily take it up till 110kmph, but certainly not more that. Else chances of accidental skids are inevitable. I rode SZ-R at a speed of 90-95 kmph for continuous 30 minutes. Faced no troubles at all. But, yes, you need to provide some rest to your machine - 10-15 minutes.

At every second service(after 4000-6000 km) get your engine flushed. You would be pleasantly surprised with the changed noise of engine and its smoothness. But, please don't ride beyond 70kmph at least for 5-7 days after every servicing. Let the engine settle down after servicing.

It's a good product. Well designed. Looks are a traditional mix of sturdy and sporty.

Go ahead with this machine. Black colour looks the best. Choice is yours.

Enjoy Riding!
