Appeal:

I bought this bike on May 31st, 2011. After 9 months of usage, I am quite satisfied with my choice.

Ride Comfort, Handling and Control:

SZ-R is a smooth customer, which wouldn't make much fuss while zipping through traffic. Gear shifting is effortless, which makes it the best in the business for driving through heavy traffic.

On the highway, the 153cc engine doesn't complain much. Even after crossing the 90km/h mark, there is no vibration or instability. Even though, the output power is 12bhp, which is a bit lesser than the hunk(14.4 bhp) and unicorn(13.3bhp), it doesn't deprive you of a good highway ride. But a very long drive can give a sore back, if you are taller than 6ft.

Braking is decent, given the weight of the bike(130 Kg), it shouldn't be difficult to halt this one.

Looks:

"Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder". I am quite impressed by the looks of the bike, though wider and bigger rear tyre could have enhanced its looks from behind. Not that the rear tyre doesn't look good enough, but it could have been better.

Fuel Cunsumption:

I am sure that most of SZ-R owners would complain of fuel efficiency, less than promised. But for that you will have to raise a complain in the yamaha website(https://yamaha-motor-india.com/Contact/contact.html) or call 1800-420-1600. I used to get a mileage of only 40-42 kmpl, even after my third servicing. Once I registered a complain, I got a call from the service center and they fixed this issue. Now I am getting a mileage of 50-55kmpl.

Overall Pros :

  1. Powerful.

  2. Fuel efficient.

  3. Easy gear shifting and smooth ride.

  4. Good enough power to weight ratio.(But remember, its mentioned in manual to not to load more than 165Kg)

  5. Looks.

  6. Good disc brakes.

  7. Worth the money

Overall Cons:

  1. The fuel tank will retain few amount of fuel, due to the design of the tank.

  2. Headlight is not powerful enough. In dim state the light is more linear.

  3. Most probably the resale value will be less.

  4. There is no pass button, so you will have to adjust with switching on the headlight and simultaneously switching it off.

  5. Grip of the TVS tyres used, aren't good enough, though not that bad that I have to mention here but better tyres could have been used.

Conslusion:

The price of SZ-R, gives it an edge over hunk and unicorn as it gives almost same power and better fuel efficiency(at least better than hunk). The features that SZ-R provides at this price, takes it to the top of the table.

If you are looking for a commuter bike that has good looks, power and good fuel efficiency at a lesser cost then go for it.

Thanks,

Sameer
