I think everyone in the world who has a computer (or a television or a radio) has heard about Yahoo! They are probably the most used site for many different things on the internet.

I know there are a lot of areas of Yahoo! to cover that makes them great so I will have to make them brief and let you know why I use so many of Yahoo!'s different services. I'm sure there are some that you already use (like search engine which is probably their most used part anyway) but there might be others that you don't know they even offer.

Just go to https://yahoo.com and you will start to see how many different features that they currently offer for people to use. I will talk about my favorites and then the ones that I have not had good experiences with so you can see the good and the bad of Yahoo!.

Good Features

There are so many of these I figured that I would start here so you can see what great functions they have.

The Site Itself

The site itself is a plus. It is very easy to look at and very easy to get around on. They have everything outlined in a way that even someone brand new to the internet will have no problems at all using their services.

Searches

Now this is what they started as and what they are best known for. Remember the story about them starting, I always thought that was a cute story. Anyway for those of you not familiar with it. Two guys started out by listing all of their favorite sites in categories to make it easier for them to go back to pages that they liked. They eventually made a page and were shocked when other people started to use their site to find things also. Next thing you know Yahoo! is born. They add sites in the same manner that they always have - people look at them and they are added after they are submitted to them and if they are approved. They do now also use Google to make the searches more comprehensive but their searches have never let me down (yes I do usually use Google for all my searches but if I want things listed in categories then I use Yahoo!).

One ID

Now the great thing about Yahoo! other than having so many different services is that all you need is one ID to access so many different things:

Mail

Clubs

Message Boards

Groups

Auctions

Personals

Games

Bill Pay

Messenger

My Yahoo!

Companion

Briefcase

Chat

Shopping

Geocities

Experts

And many many more features. This means that you won't have to keep signing up for different services that you can find all on Yahoo!.

Bad Features

Yes with the good there are usually aspects that are not as good as others. These are just from my experience so you might be lucky and not have these problems that I have had.

Chat Rooms

Personally I don't use the Yahoo! Chat Rooms anymore because I tended to get the same people talking to me over and over again. All they have is one thing on their mind and we'll just say it's not just a good conversation which is why a lot of people go to chat rooms. I am not looking for someone to have a relationship with (since I already have that) just someone to talk to and Yahoo! Chat Rooms are not the place to go for a good conversation.

Message Boards

There are a lot of offensive and out of place posts in the message boards and if you write to Yahoo! and complain they will delete them but it will take them a while to get rid of them.

Geocities

Yes I use to have a page in Geocities like many other people but I left when it merged with Yahoo because they were changing a lot of features that I liked and not deleting offensive pages or outdated pages anymore and that made the entire community look bad.

Conclusion

Yahoo! offers great features that you can use with a single ID along with e-mail so you can even have all your mail from the other areas of Yahoo sent to that mail account. I love consolidating everything nicely into one area and Yahoo! makes that possible for me to stay organized.
