Story:

The world has innumerable number of races that speak various languages, have countless religious beliefs and high deviation in culture. Yet, in all places of the world including the primitive tribal the difference between men and women have been the same. In other words, Men have been men and women have been women in all places of the world. But, how? That is what Allan Pease, known for work in body language, along with his wife Barbara Pease try to explain in their humorous/logical work – “Why men don’t listen and women can’t read maps?”

Allan and Barbara say that the difference between man and women is not social or political but biological. Each has been created to behave in a different way. The recent wave in modern world for equality of women against men in terms of opportunity, etc forgets this fact – Men and women are different. Not that one is better than the other, but they are different. The following are the few things they speak about(extracted from the back cover):

Why men can’t do more than one thing at a time Why women make such a mess of reverse parallel parking Why men should never lie to a woman Why women talk so much and men so little Why women despair about men’s silences Why men needs sex and women need love

I remember screaming, “Ma, my socks is not there in the cupboard” and my mother came in and picked it up from the same cupboard right in front of my eyes, in just few seconds! Once, my friend’s wife went wild when a tap was dripping at a distance, when we were perfectly ok and undisturbed.  One of my friends, a girl, during a conversation pointed to the back of the building and said, “When we entered …” and I was wondering why would she point the exactly opposite direction! There was explanation for all of this in this book and I found it fascinating. Before reading this book I didn’t know that women very generally poor when it came to directions.

The Authors’ point is that the brain is pre-wired and it drives the behavior in men and women along with the hormones.  For instance, they say that man uses his right brain(which controls left part of the body) for his spatial abilities, because of which he would tend to sit in left-hand side in any place(say cinema hall, etc) and women can be comfortable on any side. Not sure how the logic works inside a men’s Loo, but can be exempted considering most people’s brain stop functioning under those emergency situations!:)

The ultimate objective of the book is that, by understanding the basic differences between men and women, they can lead a better life in harmony. The explanations and facts are really humorous and when we relate it to our day-to-day things, it sounds fascinating too.

When they started their relationship, their sex life was fast and furious. Even after years it remained the same, he was fast and she was furious

There are much funny stuff like this in the book and yes; there are chapters about sex love and romance too. Thoughtfully, they have been placed at the end so that if you are not entirely comfortable about reading them, you can skip it(forget it, just for formality sake, I know you would read the chapters anyways!:)).

This is not any biological book(Just in case if it appeared like that from what I have said above). The book rather tries to explain how men and women emerged to be like how they are today. You need not be in any relationship to read and get something out of the book. Even the facts will be interesting and you might want to read it for the humor in it. I have tried another book with similar concept – “Men are from mars and women are from Venus”, which wasn’t as good as this one. Even Dan Brown, who could decipher that the cup and chalice meant men and women, could not have deciphered the women’s brain. Because the authors have succeeded in it, all men might not want to miss this book that might help in understanding women a little :) and women to understand why men are always men!
