For starters even a banal story told over a thousand times can make an impact. No more emotional commotion, the world is so matter of factly. Thirdly a change though small can make a big difference. Yes this is Wake up Sid.

By now you must have guessed the story a “Dad have it all” Pizza Munching College who knows nothing more than spending his dads money transforms in a responsible and independent individual .The movie is paced around two diametrically opposite urban prototypes. There is Sid the aimless spoilt, detached from parents, arrogant for no reason, aloof youth who just wants to have another day of fun. And there is Konkana an aspring writer mature. Independent completely in sync with her dreams. And yet the two share a wonderful, Camaraderie without being creepy, indifferent or Egoistic to each other .That is intriguing.

The most amusing thing about the movie, it wasn’t emotionally loud. No one is sticking out of their emotional boundaries and convey the just right emotions with minimal efforts. Be it Mom’s Dinner Invitation as her helpless longing for her son or Dad’s Reprimand, Sid dejection at having failed and his happiness at finding a job. He doesn’t ebb in Shame nor does a Somersault in elation. Every Emotion is so in place, downplayed and yet intense.

But what takes the cake is Sid’s awakening. It is interesting watching him make Omlettes or Clean the Shared apartment. The transition from a laid back thrown to winds attitude to someone who values independence is so subtle and smooth that you never realize when it happened. It is just the denial and dejection that brought about the change which Sid could not feel with his parents.

The movie is beautifully captured to create a perfect landscape to fit its urban appeal. Be it the Mumbai Night Drives or the office of Mumbai Beat each corner of the screen space belonged to the Characters. There are hardly any ugly angles and absurd locations. Everything’s picture perfect. Songs are minimal and fit with the flow of movie I especially liked the Kya Karoon. And Finally Director Ayen Mukerji, trys to tell a simple story in a restrained, unruffled manner yet never looses the gravity of the message. The message is loud and clear, no lofty promises, no life changing resolves, just an honest attempt to be in control of your life and live it with a purpose.

Watch it to feel it.
