Probably something I related to….

VTV tells the story of Jessie and Karthik - theirtribulations, their turmoil, their problems, their needs and the only thing common between them - their love for each other. Gautam Menon comes up with a contemporary love story. He needs to be lauded forhis efforts to show the practicality in the magic we call ‘love’.

The confusions that come between people when not with each other is shown brilliantly .The dialogues are fresh and mesmerizing to say the least. However, as every Gautam Menon flick, a lot English thrown into it and adash of Malayalam. He has not given concrete reasons for love, he says ithappens and for once we do believe him. The dialogue – ‘ Namme yaare lovepanromnu decide panne mudiyuma enne, kadhale thedi poga mudiyathu.. etc etc.’is the best I’ve heard in a while now.

Cast – Silambarasan gives his best performance to date. He is believable as the passionate and charming Karthik. You admire his courage, hate him when he doesn’t call Jessie during the crisis, pity him when Jessieleaves him.

Trisha is brilliant. However, the character she portrays anenigma of sorts. You don’t know what’s going on in her head. She has thatmystery associated with her, which Trisha plays it to the T. Guys may not likethe way she ends things with Karthik but you gotta give it to her, she did whatshe thought was right.

The rest of the cast lends enough support.

Technically, the film is superior. The cinematography, soundmixing and locations are awesome. Music as we all know is brilliant and gelswith the film. Background score also by A.R Rahman deserves mention

Direction and writing by Gautam Menon. He gets it right withminor blemishes. A breezy first half but a confusing second half. He does getit right in the climax; he didn’t have to drag it with a song near the climax. Hegets the song and dance routine right. But something’s a miss. The elements of comedy are just missing or maybe they are present but fall flat.

Climax – right one but lengthy. The separation could havebeen mutual and not having Jessie cut him off. There are times when you have togive up things for reality. Love is magic, but reality bites. No matter howdifferent these may sound are in fact co-related. Message received Mr. Menon.
