Faith….it is on which the mansions of relations are built on and wars which witness a lot of bloodshed are fought for.

Rulers who don’t have vision and harmony are there to lay the death stone of any nation. A Handful of British arrived and enslaved Indians in time – only because the rulers were all divided and lack faith in each other and failed to unite against a greater enemy.

‘Veer’ tells the story of a brave youngster (Salman Khan), born to a Pindari tribal warrior who sworn to avenge the death of 4500 of his tribe who were killed in a trap set by king of Madhavgarh (Jackie Shroff). The King did so at a cost of his right hand and the pain motivate him to destroy the clan of Pindaris. The tribal leader, Prithvi Singh (Mithun Chakroborthy) bought his son brave, strong and motivated. Young Veer is all motivated, trained and educated to revenge the british and the king of Madhavgarh. He falls in love with Princess Yashodhara, not knowing she is the daughter of King of Madhavgarh. Love, pitted against duty – will they compromise one for other? Watch Veer to know more.

The movie started with a lot of promise and it remained so for the first 30 minutes. The excellent tempo created in the first 30 minutes give way for great expectation from the movie. However, the movie took a slow turn. The romance was moving on a snailing pace. After the interval, the movie tried to be back on track with a promise for a great battle. Then, it was delayed and when executed half heartedly it was not done affectively. The end result? A movie which could have been made as excellent ended up as only a ‘good’ movie if we are ready to forget many of the cinematic liberties taken by the writers and the director.

The screen play taken audience for granted and even nursery kids who will accept cartoon stories will ask questions like, is it really possible for a human Veer?? Then, once we give this freedom to the writers, we may enjoy the fun onscreen.

Salman Khan did a good job as ‘Veer’ throughout the film. Very good! Mithun Chakraborthy gives another fantastic performance with ease. Jackie Shroff did his part very well. Sohail Khan was impressive in the half funny and half brave role. Zarine Khan did carry the insecurities of a debutant and the director failed to make the character through Zarine. The ‘Katrina Kaif’ look didn’t bring any extra charm to the character but the end scene appearance like ‘Sonia Gandhi’ did bring smiles in theatre.

Cinematography is excellent throughout. Each frame carried the ‘excellent’ stamp. Wow!

Music by Sajid Wajid is another highlight of the film where it was well supported by Gulzar’s https://lyrics. All songs were very good independently, however, when applied to situations few were at odds. Still, some times lyrics and some time choreography saves the show for the music directors and for the film. Choreography is a mixed bag, but overall very good. 3 songs at least choreographed in excellent style.

Action is good. War choreography could have been better.

Overall, Veer is a mixed bag. Very good at some times, good at other times, average at times and bad few times. Salman Khan Fans, music lovers and action loving audience may enjoy it better.

My rating: 3.25 stars.
