Ram Gopal Varma,is the best, when it comes to horror films. He made films like ''Raat'',''Bhoot'' and ''Darna Mana Hai'',which gave a new meaning to the word ''horror''.His horror films replaced the Ramsay horror films. His latest flick,''Vaastu Shastra'',also falls into the same genre.Actually, this film is an extension to RGV`s films ''Bhoot'' and the trailors of this film say-''if 'Bhoot' scared you....then this will KILL you''.After reading this one liner, one will surely expect something truly spine chilling, but sadly,it is not spine chilling enough. We have witnessed such stories, like the one in this movie, many times,in films such as ''The Others'',''Bhoot'' and the recently released ''Hum Kaun Hai'',so there will be a feeling of deja vu,throughout the movie. The movie, predictable enough,is still interesting. So,check out what went fine and what went wrong with the movie.

THE FILM:

K.Sera Sera/Verma Corp.Ltd.`s ''Vaastu Shastra'',directed by Sourabh Usha Narang, stars Sushmita Sen,Chakravarthy,Peeya Rai Chaudhary,Rajpal Yadav,Sayaji Shinde,Rasika Joshi and a child artiste,Ahsaas Channa. This is another film straight out from RGV`s so-called ''Factory'' and we all know that all the film which are made by him are always something 'different',but this one is not so different,as we have seen movies with such a story before.

THE CHARACTERS AND PERFORMANCES:

1.Rohan(Master Ahsaas Channa):Rohan is a very lonely child whose parents are always busy in their work, but he finds some friends at his own house, whom nobody else, but only he can see.Everybody thinks that it is his imagination, but actually,it is not!Master Ahsaas Channa, looks very cute, first of all and secondly, the child artiste has performed very well.He is excellent in the scene, where he explains his maid, that there are some ghosts in his house. The kid has a very innocent look on his face, throughout the movie, which definitely works for the movie. To tell you the truth, the child is the protagonist of the film, and the whole film revolves around him.

2.Jhilmil(Sushmita Sen):Jhilmil is a married woman and a mother to a young boy.She is a doctor by profession. All is going well in her life, unless she finds out that in her new house.....Sushmita Sen looks very tired throughout the movie, and I don`t know why?Maybe it was required that she should have such a look on her face.Coming to her performance, she does not get to display much histrionics in the first half, but she is good in the light moments, with her son.She acts well,in the scene where she finds out her sister`s dead body.Overall, she has given a good performance!

3.Viraag Rao(Chakravarthy):Viraag is Jhilmil`s husband, who is a writer,by profession. He along with his family, shifts to a house which is situated at a very lonely place,so that he could write his novel,in a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere, but he doesn`t know that actually, the end of his peaceful life has begun.Chakravarthy,is just about okay,as Viraag. His performance,is nothing extra-ordinary,but,if his job was to stand with Sushmita Sen or calling his son ''junior...hey junior...where are you?etc.etc.'',then he has done a good job.

Peeya Rai Chaudhary as Jhilmil`s sister,Radhika, looks cute, but does a poor job, otherwise.Rajpal Yadav is very irritating as a mad guy.Sayaji Shinde as the cop,is good.Purab Kohli as Radhika`s boyfriend,Murli,is completely wasted.Rasika Joshi,as the maid,is excellent!Hers is the best performance, amongst the supporting actors.

THE STORY:

Viraag,is a writer,by profession, who needs to write a new story, and for that purpose,he needs to write the story in a peaceful atmosphere,so,he shifts to a new house, which is far away from all the cities, where life is like a roller-coaster ride.Along with him,his wife,Jhilmil,Jhilmil`s sister Radhika and his son,Rohan also shift there.Viraag is all the time busy writing,Jhilmil, who is a doctor, remains in the hospital and Radhika is always busy talking to her boyfriend Murli,on her cell phone,so Rohan is all the time, lonely. He then finds out, some friends, whose names are Manish and Jyoti.

Nobody can see Manish and Jyoti, and so Rohan`s parents believe that he is just imagining such things. One day, soemone throws a ball on the maid,of the house, and Rohan is blamed for that, but he tries to tell that Manish did it.One night,Rohan goes to his outhouse, and everyone is shocked. So,strange things start happening.A mad guy is always following Jhilmil, whenever she is driving her car,and tries to tell her that there are ghosts living in her house.Jhilmil doesn`t believe such things.

Rohan tells Radhika that there are ghosts in their house and while everybody in the house is sleeping,at night, they are all roamin around. One night, the maid,is murdered, and nobody can figure out, that who was her murderer. At another night, when Radhika is alone, she calls her boyfriend, and he suddenly disappears. At the same time,Radhika is murdered.Suddenly, everbody starts believing Rohan and all what he used to say.Viraag and Jhilmil realise that there are some other creatures, also who are living with them, under the same roof. But what if it is too late, now?

THE WORK OF THE CREW:

Sourabh Usha Narang`s direction is fine. There are some gripping moments in the film like the one where Rohan is sitting on a tree, and when his father comes to call him,he says that he is talking to his friends,Manish and Jyoti.Another interesting scene,is the one where the maid comes to Jhilmil`s and Viraag`s house for work. Her interaction with Rohan makes for a very interesting viewing. The scene where she tries to kill Rohan,is also a very thrilling one.But some scenes are really dragged alot, which become too boring. The scene, where Radhika`s boyfriend,Murli, drops her to her house, and something strange happens to her,is a very boring and unecessarily dragged scene.

Also, the scene, where Rohan, during midnight, goes to the outhouse is very boring. You will actually, feel like sleeping. The climax is also a downer and it drags alot.To tell you the truth, the ghosts in this film don`t really look scary. The ghosts in this film resemble,Manjeet, from ''Bhoot'',and maybe that is why, they don`t scare you, because you have already seen it.

Screenplay is okay. There are somethings which you won`t understand, like, when Radhika and Murli, make love,Murli, suddenly disappears.Where does he disappear, has not been explained,at all.

Editing should have been more crisp. As I`ve said before, there are lots of scenes which drag and lots of them could have been deleted. There was no need in showing such a long love-making scene between Murli and Radhika.Has RGV also start believing that sex sells?

Cinematography is excellent, and the camera movemtns are just right for such a film.

Sound effects, are superb! If there is something which gives a chill, even for a second, then it is the background music.

Special effects are tacky.More better special effects, were expected.
