Vaastu Shastra?

One more film from the great Indian film maker RGV?s factory? It?s a factory product and unlike other factory products this one stinks and sucks?

Being an ardent fan of RGV from his first film Shiva, I have expected a film worth watching and this film made me rethink about Varma and his intentions.

Putting aside my personal things lets see what this film offers.

Story:

Sush n Chakri are made for each other couple. Chakri is a writer and to complete his new book. So they decide to shift to Shanti Kutir located at the outskirts of Pune. Their son Ahsaas Channa, a four year old bubbly cute kid and Peeya, Sush?s younger sister also lives with them.

It?s the kid who first discovers the presence of ghosts in the house and there are some well ?inspired? scenes from ?Sixth sense? and ?The others? which involves the kid.

When the kid notices things and informs to his parents they think that he is lying and they even consider him to be having some kind of hallucinations.

Apart from these people there?s a servant maid, Peeya?a boy friend Purab, Sayaji Shinde as the cop and Rajpal Yadav as a freak who try to add some thrills. The maid is the first one to be murdered and then Peeya and Purab gets killed and one by one everybody gets killed except Sush.

That?s the story part of it.

The title ?Vaastu Shastra? has got nothing to do with this film as there is nothing that?s related to Vaastu except for one dialogue by Sush saying that the Vaastu of that house is good.

Technically this movie is sound. It?s literally sound. The sound design is loud for no reason. Cinematography is Ok. Editing is sleek at many places but there are some scenes that are dragged too much.

In most of RGV?s ghost flicks he uses the mirror and a doll are the common elements but here he used a ball and the special effects are fine but the entire sequence involving the tennis ball is funny. I think the director should have thought of some thing else in place of the ball. Some how the ball seemed to be very cheap for me. There is no mystery with a ball, there?s no life in it.

As a film Vaastu Shastra does not live up to the standards of a ?Factory Product?.

I think factory is no more into making films. Day by day Factory is becoming more of an assembly line trying to churn out a film a week.

It?s going to work for some time. But how long?

Everything has got an expiry date. I think RGVs trademark of film making is nearing expiry date.

I think its worth mentioning about an anecdote here.

Last week I was at a dubbing studio and a Tamil movie was being dubbed into Tamil. I happened to watch the Tamil film almost two years back. This Tamil film was directed by Arjun who also plays the lead role in the film. The film was a remake of a Telugu Blockbuster ?Narasimha Naidu? starring Balakrishna. Now the same film is being dubbed in to Telugu with the title ?Simha Baludu?.

Pathetic!

I could not understand the logic here.A movie that was a hit in Telugu is remade into Tamil and becomes a hot there and that Tamil movie is being dubbed into Telugu. I could not find any reason behind it.But when I have enquired about it I have come to know about the motives of dubbing the film. The reason simple. Money?Money?.Money?.

The dubbed movie will be released in Telugu and the poor audience not knowing that it is the same film they have watched some time back will spend their money and time and realize that they have been cheated?.but by the time the producer would have made enough money.

Sorry for that interruption!

Now read this.

Around 8 years back Varma makes(directs) a film called ?Deyyam? in Telugu which turned out to be a super duper flop. Now after almost a decade he makes the same,

I insist ?SAME? film, with another director as ?Vaastu Shastra? and dubs into Telugu with the name ?Marri Chettu?.

Chakri played the role of Purab in the original. The movie is same except for the ending and my suggestion to all Msers is to avoid this film called ?Vaastu Shastra? as there is nothing new to this film.

How different is the great RGV from that money minded cheap producer?

Being a great fan of Varma, the man who inspired a lot of young filmmakers here in Andhra Pradesh, I think he should try some thing worthy enough. After all its not the number of movies that counts?. And Varma knows it too?..

Apart from all this there are some wonderful performances in this film too. Ahsaas Channa is the one to watch out for.He is brilliant and Sourabh Naarang needs a special mention here to bring out such a wonderful performance from that kid. Sush is good with her acting.

One last thing.

Naach is the next movie from RGV and I hope that it is not a remake of Rangeela. But the promos look more like it. Lets see.
