When one has to take a decision whether to retain a player or not, there are various factors that should be taken into account. Foremost amongst these is the ability of the player to meet the requirements of the role expected of him. Now, VVS, though he has the talent and skills, has not been able to be the backbone of the middle order due to being consistently inconsistent.
Another factor which would influence the decision whether to retain him or not is the availability of a replacement who has the potential of playing at par or better than him.
With people like Dinesh Mongia, Yuvraj Singh and Vijay Bhardwaj around ther is no dearth of talent.
Hence, it may be safely concluded that VVS does not merit a place in the One Day Squad.
