Upahara Darshini. Review on Uphara Darshini Restaurant, Jayanagar, Bangalore

Contrary to the information given here by Murgad, Upahara Darshini is not the first self service restaurant in India..Infact, it is not even the first self service restaurant in Bangalore. What he might be refering to might be that UD (as it is popularly called) is probably the first of t he Darshini or Darshan restaurants in Bangalore. I believe it is Ganesh Darshan in Jayanagar 4th Block that carries this distinction of being the first Darshini type restaurant in Bangalore...But, one must not forget that UD did popularize this Darshini trend in Bangalore.

Enough of me blabbering about history here..

But the quality of food in UD is not bad at all. The location is a huge success as it is at the beginning of a very busy DVG Road (depending on what side of the road you start from). It is a prime location for a decent restaurant, and it is worth visiting UD for a quick bite. Although, I am a bit partisan in my support for the old-charm-type restaurants, UD does serve some decent food. It feels like eating in a crowded public bus, with people pushing and jostling all around you. The best bet would be to order the food, pay for it, get the food and bring it outside. I have never been to their other branches - Roti Ghar, and the one next to Shanti Talkies...

This restaurant is particularly crowded early Sunday mornings, and if you are thinking of having a relaxing breakfast (while standing), yo are in for a surprise.

I think the management must be commended for its marketing ability, and probably ingenuity.
