Is the biggest reason to watch a movie or read a book is fascinating storytelling? Do you get so engrossed that you are hardly aware of your heart palpitations, salty tears rolling down yr face. Your brain is so transfixed to the storyline that it stays so, long after you've switched off the television / laid down your book , and tucked into bed? Well then Udaan is just for you.

This is a tale of a Father who is not programmed to be one. Who got married and produced kids as mechanically as he ran his factory. Who does not understand or know of any human emotion apart from frustration and anger. This is a tale of a motherless 17 year old dealing with his relationships, facing reality with an unflinching clasp on his passion in life. It's about a motherless 6 year old, who is a slate scribbled with rebuke & lashes. It’s a story of what happens when with a stroke of luck, these 3 are jailed under one unfortunate roof of life.

With the backdrop of the beautiful greenery of Jamshedpur, this tale unfolds; with poignancy being in direct proportion to pragmatism. The deeper the emotion weight of the scene, the simpler it's been crafted. It’s like light embroidery on heavy raw silk. And this is what takes you deeper & deeper in. And the moment you feel too heady, there'll be an unfunny funny line flung in. My favourite was the oldie blurting out with utter seriousness & straight face " No beta! Be careful of the night! You know the day destroys the night. Night divides the day. Try to run. Try to hide. Break on through to the other side."

This tale is not to remind you of your childhood or ponder over the state of affairs of a related social issue, but to simple fall in love the art of story telling. It's overall an honest film.

A special mention & credit must must be given to the soundtrack, which elevates the tale to another level altogether. Whether its Kahaani, Naav, Azaadiyan, Udaan or the theme tune – Every one of these hit the nerve & haunt you leaving goose bumps.
