If AR RAHMAN is god's gift to music, then RD BURMAN is the'GOD OF MUSIC'.I along with my brother are his craziest fans(we have a huge collection of his CD's, cassettes, MP3's).infact i'ld say that we are RDB fanatics.RDB's(popularly known as PANCHAM) contribution to film music has been immense and he was one music director who was consistent throughout.i have never come across a album of RDB which I could not listen or enjoy.RDB revolutinised the world of music.he was way ahead of his times, in terms of sound and technique.and he was a very versatile music director, he could compose any kind of song, be it classical, modern, love song.and make it sound good as well.
He is probably the most famous and talented musician INDIA has ever seen(in my opinion).Even today music companies use his songs to sell their albums, his songs are remixed, re-arranged and what not.Even films are being made on him, as a tribute to his contribution to film music.In DIL VIL PYAR VYAR they have used all RDB songs, whereas in the other film JHANKAAR BEATS they have taken a step furthur and dedicated a whole song to him, which goes like'BOSS KAUN HAI, MALOOM HAI KYA'where RDB is addressed as the BOSS of music.This goes on to show how much PANCHAM is still loved.Since I am a true RDB lover.it is very difficult for me to choose any particular fav's of his.but still if I had to make a CD comprising of his songs, these are the ones i'll put.
JAANE JA DHOONDTA PHIR RAHA(JAWANI DIWANI)
What an outstanding song.only a man of RDB's calibre can compose a song like this.I feel that no one can ever compose better romantic songs than RDB.and this song is proof of it.
DUM MARO DUM(HRHK)
This song was one of its kind.never before in that era had anyone heard a song like this.DUM MARO DUM is a modern classic.the music, use of instrument, singing everything was so much ahead of its time.
AAO AAO JAANE JAHA(GOMTI KE KINARE)
This is one of the most under-rated songs of RDB, i think hardly anyone has heard this song, but it is one of the best composition of RDB.it was a very different song, the music was unique, and the way the chorus was used deserves special mention.Check this song out.
ROJ ROJ ANKHON TALE(JEEVA)
This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard, the tune is haunting.And the way it has been sung by ASHA BHOSLE and AMIT KUMAR.lift the song to greater heights.How could a song like ROJ ROJ be picturised on MANDAKINI and SANJAY DUTT?
KABHI PALKON PE AANSOO HAO(HARJAI)
This is one of the best scores of PANCHAM.but sadly it went un-noticed.KABHI PALKON.is a sad song, beautifully written and composed and KISHOR KUMAR soulful rendition.can make you cry every time u listen to the song.A rare gem.
BADE ACHCHE LAGTE HAI(BALIKA BADHU)
Another classic.i love this song, it is so melodious, so romantic and soothing song, with the minimal use of instruments.I also love the majhi part in this song which is rendered by RDB, himself.
SAMUNDAR MEIN NAHAKE(PUKAR)
When I listen to this song.i wonder how could any one compose a song out of lyrics like this, and that too a catchy one.And if this is not enough, the song has been sung by the maestro himself, speak of talent.
TUMHE CHOD KE(BASERAA)
This is my all time fav RDB song.a very romantic number, and as I say no one composes better romantic songs than RDB.
PIYA BAWARI(KHUBSOORAT)
Who said RDB could not compose classical songs.listen to this song and you will be proved wrong.
MERA KUCH SAMAAN(IJJAZAT)
If there is one man who could do justice to GULZAR's poetic brilliance.it was RDB, i still can't beleive that RDB could actually make a song out of unusual lyrics like this and make it sound so brilliant.Hats of to him.
TUJHSE NARRAZ NAHI(MASOOM)
MASOOM happense to be one of my fav albums.each song is a gem, particularly this song.One of the most touching, soulful.number's to come out in Hindi film music.
AAP KI ANKHON MEIN(GHAR)
Ghar too had great music, and like MASOOM each song was a gem.but I particularly loved this song, the music and song is DIVINE.Why can't we make more songs like this, anymore?
MEHBOOBA MEHBOOBA(SHOLAY)
I love this song.it has got such a deadly tune, and has a very Arabic flavour.The song is so catchy, upbeat.i love dancing to it.There was another song of RDB, which had a very ARABIC feel to it.the song was KHATOOBA from Ali baba chalis chor, i love that one too.
I AM FALLING IN LOVE WITH A STRANGER(DEEWAR)
Well I am sure many of you are not aware of this song.but this was the first english song RDB composed.It was used as a background song in DEEWAR.and really I don't know why they haven't given this song in cassettees and CD's.This song is simply outstanding.
Some of the other songs of RDB which I love are.ZINDAGI KE SAFAR(Aap ki Kasam), AISE NA MUJHE TUM DEKHO(Darling Darling), TUM KYA JANO MOHABBAT KYA HAI(HKSKN), RIM JHIM GIRE SAWAN(Manjil), SILI HAWA CHOO GAYE(Libaas), O MERI JAAN(Manjil Manjil), PYAR KE MOD PE(Parinda), KUCH TO LOG(Amar prem), TUMNE MUJHE DEKHA(Teesri manjil), MAANG LOONGA MEIN(Romance), MAUSAM PYAR KA(Sitamgar), SUNO SITAMGAR(Zabardast).and a lot other.
I'll also list out a few of RDB's songs which were brilliant but didn't become as popular as some of his other songs.JAHAN BIN HAWA KE(JHOOTHA SACH), MAUSAM PYAR KA(SITAMGAR), JEENE DE YE DUNIYA(LAVA), JAANE KYA SOCH KAR(KINARA), MOHABBAT TO KARTA HAI(HIFAZAT), SAWAAN KE JHOOLE(JURMANA), TO ROOTHA TO(JAWANI).all these songs are my absolute fav, too.
IMO each and every song of RDB is a classic, so just picking a few songs of his doesn't do enough justice to him.I really wish RDB were alive.coz he had so much to give to music lovers like me.He is one reason I enjoy music sooooooooooo much.
