Pancham...the 5th Note ...the 6th Element !

Earlier, Mother Nature had 5 elements Earth, Water, Fire, Wind and Space.

But then it gave birth to the 6th Element.Pancham. The name Pancham itself suggested that he had all the 5 elements within him and ruling these five was Pancham with his 6th Sense.

Thus believe it or not Pancham for me is the 6th Element, the element which fills the void in our life which is beyond the reach of anyone!

Earth:

Pancham, though a man riding the top had a strong relation with the Earth. His musical skills were deeply routed in his Bhumi Bengal, where he belonged to and the Sanskar of Rabindrasangeet on him.Even at the peak of his success Pancham was Down to Earth and there are so many evidences, one being my Cousin sister who has played on the lap of Pancham, who used to visit the chawl at Dadar, where Marutirao Keer, (R.D.s Rhythm arranger) used to stay. This is just because of his strong bonding with the earth, that he could last so long in Music and the Musical Tree Pancham produced such Songs(which are nothing less than fruits)

Water:Water is supposed to be the most pure form of existence, and thus was Pancham's music, purely eternal! When you listen to the songs like Kuch Na Kaho, Juthe Tere Nain. you can experience the purity of Pancham's thoughts, his music.

Fire:Everyone who has heard Pancham can feel the fire which was always burning deep inside him and which rarely erupted like a volcano through songs like Mehbooba, Piya tu, Duniya mein, Mamaiya Kero Mama. The volcano was never dormant and ended at the Funeral pyre of Pancham!

Wind:Pancham was all form of wind! Songs like Khali haath Shaam aayi came to us as subtle wind, soothing our heart and mind where as songs like Samunder mein Nahake, Yeh din to aata hai came like strong winds and caried us away to a different world. And no.this is not a co-incidence that Pancham's Orchestration consited of lot of Wind Instruments like Saxophone, Trumpet (Hum kisise kam nahi, Teesri Manzil.).

Space:Space.when we hear this word, we think about the cosmic world, the life beyond the earth, something unworldly.and thus was(rather is) the Music of Pancham, which is still beyond the creativity of almost all the Musicians! Pancham's music was extra terrestrial and was out of this world, it was always ahead of time(Sometimes I wonder Pancham could have done the Musical Score of 'Back to the Future' in a fantastic way!). Pancham's music was never inert.and provided the space for improvisation and experimentation.

And now comes the 6th element Pancham, a combination of all this and an Icing on the cake. Pancham is nothing but Energy!(Energy can neither be created nor be destroyed.but can only be transformed from one form to another).

Thus is Pancham. a second Pancham can never be created.nor anyone can ever destroy Pancham.Oh yes but Pancham's music can be converted from one form to another .and many musicians are still doing that with 90% of the remixes being of Pancham's songs and lot of current musicians like Illaya Raja, Rehman, Jatin Lalit admitting the influence of Pancham on them.

May the 5th Note always Sustain and the 6th Element always prevail!

. A small gift to Pancham from a die hard Pancham student!
