Honestly speaking, when this movie released I knew this movie would do well for itself.
Ben Stiller is a comedy genius and the audience absolutely loves him.
Directed by Ben Stiller, Tropic Thunder boasts of a humongous star cast. The plot is very simple. It is about a movie being made on a book "Tropic Thunder" written by Sgt Fourleaf Tayback(played by Nick Nolte) about his experience in Vietnam. But there are so many characters in the movie for which bigshot actors have been hired that the rookie English director Damien Cockburn played by Steve Coogan is unable to handle their tantrums and misses out recording a million dollar explosion.
Tom Cruise plays the middle aged hot headed producer who likes to keep all conversation short, to the point and filled with obcenities. He would be the last person one would like to anger. Jack Black is the star of the flatulent comedy movie Fatties series, Jeff Portnoy. Robert Downey Jr plays Kirk Lazarus a multi Academy Award winning actor playing an African American soldier who took his role so seriously that he undergoes a controversial pigmentation operation to play to role. Heck . he even modulates his voice and stays in his act even on the brink of death. Ben Stiller plays Tugg Speedman the all American Action star who has offlate lost his steam and is all for getting it all back. Mathew McConaughey plays Tug's loyal agent Rick Pecker. Brandon T. Jackson plays Alpa Chino, a rapper who is attempting to cross over into acting.
Even if the movie was no good, I would go for it just to watch the huge starcast onscreen chemistry.
This movie had its share of issues. Paramount pictures wanted to keep the involvement of Tom Cruise a surprise for the fans worldwide but like always some paparazzi had to ruin it for us all. Ben Stiller faced some heat on his character Tug playing a retard in one of Tug's flops "Simple Jack" in USA.
Faux websites and mockumentary -
Several faux websites were created for the main characters and some of their prior film roles. A website for Simple Jack, a faux film exhibited within the film, was removed by DreamWorks on August 4, due to protests from disability advocates. In addition, other promotional websites were created for "Make Pretty Skin Clinic", the fictional company that performed the surgery of the film's character Kirk Lazarus.

1. Fake ad of "Booty Sweat" drink by rapper Alpa Chino.
2. Fake trailer of "Fatties" starring Jack Black as Jeff Portnoy.
Fake trailer of the "Scorcher" series starring Ben Stiller as Tug.
Fake trailer of "Satan's Alley" starring Robert Downey Jr as Kirk and Tobey Maguire.
Tom Cruise dancing to Low(Flo Rida Song) at the end.
On the whole, it can easily be branded as one of the best action comedies to come out this decade.
