I bought this Toshiba Canvio Basic 2 TB external HDD from snapdeal on 18th Feb 2016. It was working fine until last month when suddenly it stopped working on 25th July of 2017. Just lasted for about 1 & a half year, where as the product warranty period is 3 years from date of purchase. I bought it from Snapdeal for Rs. 5900. I do not use my external HDD for heavy use, I used it for only backup purpose. Since there is chance of HDD failure of the laptop, I used this external HDD to backup the data in my laptop just about once or twice a month. There was not even too much data in it, it was full upto 60% only.
The problem it is showing is really annoying. When I connect it to the USB 3.0 port of my laptop, it's blue LED starts blinking and never stops. The drive letter only shows in "My Computer" but there is no status of the HDD or the available space. When I touch the HDD, it seems like it is just spinning inside forever. I guess it is not being read by the laptop.
I tried contacting the Toshiba support staff and they mentioned that they deal about laptops and not HDDs, after several inquiry, I found that a company named "Rashi Peripherals" is supposed to be handling issues like this. So I tried to find their address in Bhubaneswar and called on their number but the computer voice says that the number hasn't been given to anyone. I tried to send an email to the person responsible to deal with RMAs but never got any reply. I just don't know what to do, who to ask for help.
The HDD was good when working, I would list the Pros and Cons that may help other people-
Pros:
Light weight
Different LED for USB 2.0(White) & 3.0(Blue)
Cheap(deals and offers)
Cons:
Build quality is not so great
No product registration
No official support staff(at least direct call or email)
Non existence after sales service
This HDD may come cheaper than other brands but don't fall for it because there is no customer service for this product. And when it goes kaput, you may have to use it as a paperweight. Definitely not recommended.
