Greats. Review on Top Five Footballers

I am terrifed by the topic of describing just about 5 great footballers, because I am going to miss on many greats. I don’t know why only 5 great footballers have to be described and not more, but I will abide by the topic.

Football is a game played by passion in the whole world. It is the most played game in the world. Although I was cricket crazy, as I suppose every Indian is, I got hooked to football with the English Premier League and the Spanish La Liga, where the club football is played.

In this review I am going to describe about 5 current great footballers. I think they are at their best currently. I have made an effort to include at least 1 Goalkeeper, 1 Defender, 1 Midfielder and 1 Striker, so I can point out the greats in all the areas of the football ground. These are my personal choices.

The following is my List

1) Ronaldinho :-

He plays for Brazil national team and is an attacking Midfielder. This footballer is absolutely Magic. He is the World Footballer of the Year and also the European Footballer of the Year if I am not mistaken. This man holds every trick in the book while playing football like dribbling; taking free-kicks, penalties; crossing the ball into penalty box for the strikers and even scoring goals from the midfield. He plays for Barcelona Football Club in Spanish La Liga and was inspirational in their success in winning the Domestic title for the second consecutive time as well as the UEFA Champions League title. His bucktoothed grin is also his trademark

2) Petr Cech :-

He plays for Serbia and Montenegro national team and is a Goalkeeper. He plays for Chelsea Football Club in the English Premier League. Cech is a rock in the goal for Chelsea. Although it is argued that he has the best defence in the league in front of him, it takes a lot of concentration to save the attempts on goal after lot of time and Cech has it. He has also got great reflexes. Though he was not in as good form as the last season Chelsea still have the best defensive record in the English Premier League. He was also instrumental in qualification of Serbia and Montenegro team to the World Cup. The Serbia and Montenegro team conceded just one goal in their qualification campaign for the World Cup and at the national level Cech does not have the defence as at Chelsea.

3) Thierry Henry :-

He plays for France national team and is a Striker. He is one of the most feared striker in world football currently. He has almost every quality required for a striker – pace; goal scoring instinct, passing ability, etc. but he is not known for his goal scoring prowess through headers. He plays for Arsenal Football Club in the English Premier League. I can say that he is their main player in that football club. His move to Arsenal made him a striker of great quality. He is the soul of their team and also their captain. He not only scores goals but creates as many as he scores. He is a great player to watch and his form in the World Cup would be important for France to progress.

4) Wayne Rooney :-

He plays for the England national team and is a Striker. He is a Wonder Kid. He is just 20 years old and is the key player in the England side already. The sadness of the England players after he suffered a metatarsal injury is proof of that. Rooney plays for Manchester United Football Club in the English Premier League. He is also the most influential and charismatic player in his Club side. The hat-trick which he scored in his first Champions League match against Turkish side Fenherbache showed that he is the man for the big stage. His loss due to injury may be a great loss to the England national team in the World Cup. Rooney is a player that plays above his age. His pace and striking ability are superb.

5) Roberto Carlos :-

He plays for the Brazil national team and is a Left Wing Defender. He is considered as an attacking defender by some people, but his defensive qualities are quite good. Carlos has been a consistent figure on the left side of the Brazilian defence. He plays for Real Madrid Football Club in the Spanish La Liga. His stamina is of the highest rank, he keeps running up & down on the left flank. The Banana-Kick is his speciality, where after taking the free-kick the ball swings in the air which makes it difficult for the keeper to catch it.

In describing just 5 football greats I have missed out on other current greats such as Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo, David Beckham (most hyped player), Paulo Maldini, Oliver Kahn, Ruud vanNistelrooy, Micheal Ballack, etc. The list goes on & on but according to me the above 5 are the best, though they may not be the best according to you

I have also not mentioned past legends such as Pele, Maradona, Roberto Baggio, Franz Beckenbauer, etc. as I have concentrated on current players. Please excuse me for that.
