The best writer and infact the best of the best of the best. All other companies(should I mention) are just making products called writers with some stupid writing lens and some electronic circuits in them, . All they fail to note is quality and customer satisfaction. I am new to this forum site, and wanted to share my story on SONY writer.
I bought this CRX-225 E a 52x/24x/52x rw drive on september 2003. One year over, and I have never experienced any glitch. All I was worried about was the rated speed. The drive mentioned 52 x read and write, and all writing software(NERO, DEEPBURNER, NTI CD MAKER) said, it is a 40x/24x/40x drive. I was shoked. for a moment I cant believe my eyes, and even thought whether I had a wrong impression on SONY.
Then without getting a heart attack, I searched the internet, ( YOU KNOW, the web oF WEBSITES!) and YAHHH I got it. The sony.com website had the complete technical manual in it. I downloaded and saw the secret- KEEP PRESSING THE EJECT BUTTON FOR 5 SECONDS AFTER LOADING A CD. THE BUSY LED WILL GLOW TWICE TO INDICATE THE TURBO BOOST FUNCTION IS ACTIVATED.
The drive started spinning like the engines of a BOEING 777. I got read and write speeds at unbelievable rates. so folks, if u were having the same trouble, try this. Then I noticed one thing. I ran a old and really old playstation cd on my friends stupid combo drive(the company with blue orbit and name in middle) I did a surface scan using nero drive utility. All yellow and red spots tortured my eyes.
I took that cd, put that into my babe burner, and scanned. Wow, most of the red dots vanished, and fewer yellow spots, even at 40 x. I reduced the speed to 4 x, NO RED DOTS AT ALL, AND ALMOST NO YELLOW DOTS, . I TOOK A BACKUP COPY THEN. ever since, my friends(even those with writers) come to me to take backup of old and ABOUT TO DIE grandma CDs.
Man, I noticed one important thing. Have you ever seen any drive tray connected to geared wheels. Yes, sony has sturdy and robust plastic geared wheels connecting the tray motor and the tray gear track. That makes one thing sure. NO TRAY FAILURES FOR ANOTHER DECADE.
All other brands have a stupid rubber belt mechanism, which tends to either break or loosen. you might have heard of samsung and lg drive tray problems. That is because of this. the audio out from the front earphone was perfect.
The drive worked superb in both horizontal and vertical orientations. And the drive is smaller in length compared to pioneer and others. It works fine with all windows and I have tested it to work with redhat 9.0 and mandrake linux. cool. no probs. Even I have heard that the combo drive from sony was the best. I think it must be true.
