CRASH!

There went that brand new expensive watch…shattered to thousands of scattered pieces of glass! What I’m left with? A mess to clean up and a temper to cool down!

Being a Taurean with the notorious temper, I’ve found myself in the extreme situations when the Anger button in my brain explodes and with it explodes a train of unpleasant and possibly violent actions and words. Rage is a deadly brain-eater, which captures all senses and takes full control when it’s in full bloom! The hands shrink into rock-like fists, the feet stand brick-like strong, the nerves beat against the contracting muscles and the face becomes red-hot and every vein screams to be let loose! In a state like this, Thinking is the last thing that I can think of! So, How to solve this situation?

Well, its simple…Don’t let the situation come at all! Prevention is better than Cure, Abstinence is better than Excess and Controlling your temper is better than Cooling-down afterwards!

“When anger rises, think of the consequences.” * *

  • Said the wise Confucius

The Reason is You

There are big and small reasons behind those anger outbreaks. Some reasons are worth considering, but most of the times, after I’ve already let my brain to be captured by that uncontrollable anger, followed by some unpleasant consequences, when I look back and think about the reason, it seems ridiculous that I actually lost my cool over such trivial issues! So, before you go into a heated frenzy, STOP and think to yourself, Is the issue really worth fuming over? Can it not be solved with cool and calm reasoning? Does it absolutely require yelling, screaming and useless tantrums or can it be solved with simply thinking-over the problem?

If the answer to all these questions is No, then I strongly advise you to save that outburst for now, since its really not worth getting worked up over something you are going to laugh about in 2 days’ time! If the answer is Yes, then here are a few points to consider…

1.Calm is the key!

No matter how serious you think the problem is, and no matter how much you’ve been provoked into this rage, there is NOTHING that cannot be solved with simple reasoning! When you feel that anger rising, remember this: Stay Calm! In a state of extreme anger, your reasoning takes a backseat and you’re left with unwanted consequences. Why let this happen? Just stay calm and solve the problem that is triggering this temper! How to stay calm? Well read on!

2.Breeeeeaaaatheee

Yes, I know, you might have heard this advise more than just once! But hey, it really works! When you feel that heat crawling up your face, just take a deep breath. To explain it in scientific terms, when you inhale, a surge of oxygen goes to your brain and then when u consequently exhale all that waste carbon dioxide leaves your body. With more oxygen in the brain, the functioning improves and the thought process becomes clearer. So get that extra breath of fresh air and relax your brain!

3.Divert your Energy

When you’re angry, you tend to feel this built up energy screaming to get out. What could result in violent outbursts can be diverted into alternate activities. Feel angry and want to throw that vase across the room? Stop right there! Instead, release that energy by doing something constructive. The best way would be to play some sport and use up all that energy! If not a sport, then just go running outside or even dance. Breathe the fresh air, use your built-up energy, burn that adrenalin and get rid of that anger! While you’re running, dancing or playing, empty out all those thoughts that make you angry and just feel the atmosphere around you. Feel the blood gushing to your brain, sense your feet moving back and forth and just let yourself feel that soft breeze as you slice it with your body. Bam! There goes that anger down the drain!

4.The Sound of Music

Its commonly known that music can really calm you down in the most tense situations. So get that stereo working and listen to your favourite songs. Again, just lose yourself to the music and enjoy every tune, every beat! What you’re angry about might be still lingering in your mind, but I assure you, listening to your favourite song helps you to relax and remember the beauty of music. Music is magical, it can do wonders to your temper!

5.Talk talk talk!

Don’t bottle up that anger! Never ever ever! Keeping that anger corked up will keep you calm for now, but eventually all that will accumulate and burst like lava! Please don’t let that stage come. Talk! Express your anger before that outburst! Find the person you trust the most and just let out all that you have to say. If that person is the reason behind your anger, just calmly communicate the reasons right there and then. WARNING: Do Not Blame, Point, Curse, Use Swear words, Be derogatory! All this would just make the situation worse and take things nowhere!

If you really don’t feel like talking to anyone, just write your thoughts down. If you don’t want to write, just sing your thoughts out loud! The bottom line is, express yourself if something is bothering you. Do not be ashamed to ask for help if and don’t think that talking about your problems will make you seem weak! No, it really does not!

6.Get that Joke Book!

Humour is the great thing, the saving thing. The minute it crops up, all our irritation and resentments slip away, and a sunny spirit takes their place.

  • Quote by Mark Twain

There is no better way to cool yourself down than humour! Just get out that joke book, or go find some jokes online, or go watch your favourite comedy show and Boom! Your temper will fall like Humpty-Dumpty!( er…excuse the sad humour here please…hehe)

So, Take over that anger before it takes over you!

And while you do that, please drop into the Comments Section and leave me a comment!

Adieu!
