“Just try it! It’s very comfortable. In any position”

“No! No! I cannot, I don’t think I will like it!”

Now! Now! Now! All you people letting their imagination run amok, gather your thoughts and read on about our favourite possession our Bean Bag!

Disclaimer: I could not find the right category and did try my level best to add it, but no luck. So here I am with the closest possible one.

When I first moved to Bangalore, we lived in a small n cozy place without any furniture, just 2 gaddas on the floor and 2 plastic chairs. One day, vellas that we were, we went for this cake exhibition, where they had made a huge cake in the shape of Mysore Palace(don’t ask me why! why do people want to make world’s largest pie?!). This place had other fancy inedible cakes and small area which had stalls selling different stuff.

One of those was selling Bean Bags. Now we had seen this stuff umpteen times in Mumbai at all these exhibitions, but somehow I was too shy to even try sitting on it. In unison we said, I always wanted one of these! Calling a sheer co-incidence some kind of divine proof of our love(we wanted same things!) we decided to blow a large sum of money on acquiring this piece of furniture(?) and see how it goes.

After sitting on it, checking out how comfy it was(salesman giving his talk about how it has a built in head rest, flexible body etc) we got down to bargaining. Very recently we realized it isn’t really bargain and that’s the standard reduction they give to anybody who cries about the price. But still it was a small consolation at that time.:)

We got down to deciding the colour. The yellow too bright, the blue too boring, the brown too dark… we finally decided to give in to a safe beige till our eyes fell on a bright red and going against the “safe” bet we bought the red one. From then on, it became an indispensable part of our life. We hardly had place for it, yet anybody who came to our place would go Ooh and plonk themselves on it.

Of course the biggest fan was a pal’s kiddo(mentioned in Gufa review) who thought it was some kinda semi-trampoline and was the biggest incentive for him to visit us, other than Mayunk who is magician with kids. With his regular administering of jumping and dancing on it, it became even more flexible and comfy, with it being able to become chair, sofa for two and bed to curl up on.

WE recently bought one more, a tan brown that looks nice with our red one and gifted one to the kiddo, Malhar, who didn’t know that bean bags existed outside of our home and of colour other than red!:)

Now for the more practical details that should help you make the buying decision and all that jazz.

What is bean bag?

It is a leather / rexin bag filled with confetti(the small thermocol balls that fall from the balloon at a birthday party?!) and zipped. Its approximate shape is like a pear and is flexible to take the shape of the body that occupies it.

How much does it cost?

If you buy a branded one called Lazy Bag it costs around 2100bucks. But you will have a local guy who would sell it cheaper. Our new bean bag came under a super offer from City Bean Bags with one free on another. So we got two bean bags in 2800bucks. DO NOT buy the unbelievably cheap ones from Big Bazaar because they are bad quality rexin and heat up too easily and make you go all sticky.

Any maintenance?

Nope! Fill it, shut it, forget it. They offer a three year replacement warranty in case it tears etc. The only change you need, depending on your usage, is the beans. The confetti needs to be replaced after year and a half or so before the bean bag becomes a completely flat structure. These beans cost around Rs.200 for a bag and you might need one or two.

If you don’t want to invest in heavy duty furniture, few of these bean bags thrown around, give a very casual yet chic look to the room.

They are extremely comfortable to just sit and chill on, curl up with a book, stretch on after a long day or have the kids jump on and have fun or see your old photos sitting together on it(two of you can easily fit on one and get cozy!;)

So go on, bag those spilt beans!
