Two days ago I met a an old High school friend on the road. She was the most intelligent & beautiful girl who always topped in all exams.Meeting after 5 years, we went to her house to chat.

?So, what are you doing now?I asked

Her face became pale.

?I completed B.E in computers, but I am not getting a job now? she said

?Why not?

?Because I have Epilepsy. My parents are also searching a groom for me, but nobody wants to marry me.?

Her plight moved my heart & I decided to write this review for her .

Epilepsy is just another disease like Diabetes or Asthma, but due to less knowledge of this disease, Epilepsy patients have to suffer social difficulties.

Men & women both are prone to Epilepsy, it is most common in males, but women have to suffer more difficulties.Even in educated society, Epileptic people face difficulties. Whenever a certain person has?Fits?, it is thought he is possessed by something &  is taken to a ?tantrik? rather than to a qualified doctor.

Most patients are made to go through herbal or other useless therapies by their orthodox relatives. An Epileptic patients suffer lot of social stigma, all the classes, whether educated or orthodox are not readily accepted.

Men face Job problems, Graduates are not chosen, because?healthy? employees are prefered.Marriages pose as a problem but not a big. Woman suffering from Epilepsy lead a horrible lives. Fewer women come to the epilepsy clinics than men.Marriage becomes the biggest problem. An epileptic girl is forced to marry an handicapped person much lower to her standards, that too with a large dowry.

Many woman don?t tell their husbands about their condition for fear of being divorced & take pills in secrecy. Not a single healthy person gets to marry an epileptic person, not even the doctors who know the truth. My friend is one of them.

She is very intelligent & beautiful but due to Epilepsy she is facing problems. She got her first attack in X standard. But due to timely treatment & regular dose of medicine, she is OK today.Nobody can tell looking at her that she is epileptic. But when a suitable boy is told about her disease, they turn their backs. Why should an Epileptic suffer so much?

It is not their fault that they have the disease.Just because a person gets?Fits?, is he not entitled to live a normal life? Most of people do not know anything about Epilepsy. So here are the facts.

What is Epilepsy?

Epilepsy is a brain disorder characterized by convulsions, seizures or fits. These occur due to a sudden abnormal discharge from the brain cells or neurons.

What causes Epilepsy?

The cause of this is not easily identifiable in a large number of individuals, but can occur following birth injuries to the brain, lack of glucose or oxygen to the brain, head injuries, strokes, tumours, etc .

Is Epilepsy curable?

There are various types & levels of Epilepsy.70% of Epilepsy is easily curable with the use of drugs.30% may not be totally curable & may have to take drugs for all lifetime.

Is Epilepsy contagious?

Non-sense. Epilepsy is not at all contagious. You cannot get Epilepsy from being in a contact with an Epilepsy person.

So if you know anybody who is suffering from Epilepsy, please don?t turn away from them.Let them know u support them. That will mean the world to them.
