~~Random Ramblings by a Music Lover~~~
Nov 22, 2005 03:24 AM 4025 Views
(Updated Nov 22, 2005 03:26 AM)

I am pretty darn sure no one needs tips on how to enjoy music.and that too from me.a 20 yr old guy with very limited knowledge of most genres of music.and even the music that I love listening most of the time.i'm pretty certain I haven't touched even maybe 5 percent of the vast resources that have been recorded till date.

So just take this as some kind of random ramblings.of which I am in the mood for at this time of night(see review posted time.heh).and since every person with two ears(or one) with functional anvils, stirrups and eardrums does enjoy some sort of music I hope I can relate to you with this writeup in some form.

If you ain't into music.

Come on.I'm pretty sure you enjoy some sort of music.language no bar.but everyone does need to chill out once in a while, and one of the best relaxants in the world is music. Rock, Pop, Trance, Metal.whatever it be.

Those who aren't really into music.try listening to some stuff that matches with your mood.if you are more of a patriot.try recent bollywood flicks.they aren't really very bad.else hop onto oldies like The Beatles or The Carpenters.you'll like something for sure.if you prefer non-lyrical music.try western classical music, like Beethoven's 5th Symphony Allegro or Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.even better try Strauss' The Blue Danube.the easiest part of western classical music is that it is so powerful you're bound to connect somewhat into those orchestral types of sound.I would give Eastern classical a go at the moment if you're new and trying to get a feel of music at the moment.

I did start listening to music by listening to old records of Bach, Beethoven and Mozart when I was about five and even at that age, I remember being thrilled to hear the huge orchestral setup music, and even could understand a bit the smooth crests and troughs of the musical moods.

Permutation-Combination, Seven Notes, Creativity, Euphoria. and all that Jazz

Sometimes I've stopped to wonder how seven basic notes(and a few tweaks here and there), different scales using those notes, creating different sounds therein by using a wide array of(stringed/wind/electrical gadgets/you name them) instruments and/or combining them with vocal lyrics can give us such a wide variety of sound.and not all of that is music, as any non-musician strumming randomly on a guitar or playing a synth will find out.and the strange fact being that this very important difference in the type of music produced using this given set of notes gives any two distinctly different individuals different types of auditory satisfaction.i make any sense?

Pure Random Ramblings.

And everything else I wanted to write but could not really classify is in this section.:)

I've been writing music reviews on this site for a fair bit of time, and although they have been fairly biased towards mostly rock.fact remains I enjoy all kinds.selectively mind you.but basically music from all ranges and all genres.

It ain't no secret that I enjoy rock music, as do a large amount of the teen and adult society.if I try to analyze why I enjoy rock music better than I do other stuff.there's really no explanation, barring the fact that during normal times and in my regular mood, I connect with the problems or statements made in that genre.rock being associated with a cultural revolution about four decades back.there is an intensity, emotion and definite euphoria involved when within my grey cells that favourite riff is played or vocal is screamed.even simpler, I have become accustomed to that sound and find it easier to accept at one go.and the enjoyment factor comes sooner than with other songs.

Having said that, it's not 24x7 that I will enjoy only one genre of music.being a music listener is important, being a music lover is more important, and being an unbiased music lover is even more important.

Why such a statement.lets ponder.

You will find several rock-a-holics who claim that rock(and all its sub-genres) is the best there is and rubbish in no simple terms pop or classical music. Frankly, I find it at the very least unjust, and at most, very stupid. One may enjoy a particular genre but that isn't reason enough to snub other creative artistes from other genres. As much as music is enjoyment to the senses, it is also a tribute to the creator of that piece. Music knows no boundaries, it only classifies its audience and form.

For instance, a Metallica fan rubbishing Bryan Adams is a handy argument. It does take creative effort to connect to a large audience and produce a'musical piece', as in both cases -  to create songs like.say Nothing Else Matters or Summer of 69.and when we, the audience(the biggest critics, in reality) do not generally have even the capacity to pen a musically'passable' song:.we should avoid such strong bias when the artistes in question have proven musical ability.(Am of course emitting guys like Anu Malik and his stolen compositions).

For instance, the fact that I don't really connect with jazz music doesn't make it any inferior.its one of the greatest means of expressing oneself through music.it just means that I haven't been able to embrace music as completely as I would like to have done.

Tuning into some sense, hopefully.

Finally.something about moods, enjoyment and music.

Obviously, music and one's mood are on the same string.you wouldn't be caught in a bad mood listening to Las Ketchup's'The Ketchup Song'(and then you might;)).

Generally.when in a good(or your usual mood), you can listen to your favourite genre, and also experiment by listening to that song in that obscure directory you never heard.it may come across as a pleasant surprise.

If you're feeling even better, try hard rock like Metallica/Sabbath or such similar 70's or 80's rock demi-god acts.never falters in cheering me up.for others, party tracks, or feel-good pop songs are quite good options.I like listening to songs like Ronan Keating's Life is a Roller Coaster or Chumbawamba's Tubthumping in this regard.in Hindi, I liked a few songs such as Ada from Garam Masala or Fanaa from Yuva.

If you're feeling a bit under the weather, or a bit tired, you can try Led Zeppelin, Coldplay, Pink Floyd or Evanescence if you want to lie down.or try Guns n Roses or Dire Straits you need cheering up.in other genres, I find songs like Aadat by Jal or Kandissa by Indian Ocean suitable for such moods.

If in that terrible sad mood and you want to wrap yourself up even further into that mode.I guess everyone has some songs that relate to their lives they can play.not much help here.

For me,  Solitude by Sabbath works.as does grunge music.

And finally.romantic(leaving other inexplicable moods out).the mood to be.heh.I can't help you too much there.but soft rock songs, some pop songs, and especially latin flamenco songs have a very romantic feel.Songs like Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits, Lobo's I'd Love you to want me and I liked the song from Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena called Jal Jal Ke Dhuan.it's very romantic even though it's portrayed sensually.
