Shoes speak a great deal about who you are, what kind of person you are, you’re circle of friends and most important; your preferences and characteristics. But there are so many varieties of shoes and occasions that’ll make you wonder if you’d do well to get a pair for every occasion. Of course, that’d lead you to bankruptcy or you could take some really wise decisions. As a personal opinion, every person should have three pairs of shoes: a formal one, an informal party-going type and a pair of good sport shoes.

When buying shoes, there are two things to be kept in mind – comfort and appeal. Footwear should not only make you feel comfortable in them but also make you look good. Shoes with laces are out as open shoes and slip-ons are in. Most people now opt for the square-cut or the diamond-cut varieties instead of going for the pointed type formal shoe. Shoes that are sporty to look at and can be word for semi-formal functions are becoming quite popular. Quite a number of international brands have carved a niche for themselves in the footwear industry – Lee Cooper, Bally and Florsheim. Stand up when measuring your feet. Since feet tend to swell during the day, its best to go shopping for shoes in the afternoon or in the evening. Try on both shoes and take a test walk in the store. It wouldn’t hurt anyone if you took a bit longer in front of the mirror. Remember, its you whose going to wear it. Check it out at every angle, curve and move. You should know what an impression you make. Stay away from shoes that need a break-in period.(These are shoes that need to be kept aside for some time to retain their original shape) When on a trip to a shoe store, take along the socks you intend to wear most often. The sock allows easier entry of the feet into the shoes and adds comfort to creativity. Your shoes should fit your heel and toes. The toes box should provide ample wriggle room and the heel shouldn’t slip while walking. And never buy a shoe based on size or opinion alone. A few handy tips: Never(and I mean never) wear black shoes with shoes or vice-versa. Make sure the color of your belt and your shoes match. For ladies, make that handbag and shoes. There should be an overlap of an inch between the bottom of the trouser leg and the heel of you shoe. With these words of advice, I’m sure that many of you would soon leave a lasting impression on whomever you meet.
