This movie swept the board when it came to Oscars and academy awards when it was released. Strange then that so many people should find it so crushingly dull when they came to watch it. I see this isnt the case with the mouthshut members but of my friends I can count none who actually liked this movie.
Its a real drag, stretching out over 3 hours and telling a story which basically goes nowhere. The English Patient in the title is actually a Hungarian Count who is suffering burns and from amnesia and being cared for by a French nurse. He tells of his days in the desert which left him this way, and the war of course which is the focus of this story, and of his life and love for a married woman. Its aromantic tale, told in flashback style, and it should have been great.
Well it looks great, the cinematographyh is superb, faultless even. The scripting too is excellent and the acting performances equally brilliant. The story? Dull! I struggled to stay awake and somehow managed but oh I can tell you it was a struggle. I hate this movie for its sheer lack of real entertainment. no one says you need sunts all over the palce to keep things interesting, but at least keep us awake.
Overall, its asically too long and too little happens to warrant it being this long. I hated it, so do lots of other people so decide whether its for you. Apparently the novel is far superior anyway so read that instead is my advice.
