Blue Umbrella has won National Award for "Best Children Movie".  It is based on a novel by Ruskin Bond.  It's a baby of Vishal Bhardwaj who previously gave us Makdee, Maqbool and Omkara. This time he team up again with Pankaj Kapoor and explore his fav territory "Children Cinema".

*PLOT

*The movie is based in a small village of Himachal Pradesh.  Pankaj Kapoor plays Nandkishor Khatri, a local Baniya.  Biniya(Shreya Sharma) is a village girl who got this umbrella from Japanese tourists in exchange of Bear's claws' pendent.  Every villagers is fascinated by this beautiful umbrella(so do I).

Khatri tried many tricks to get hold on that umbrella but in vein. His associate suggested to steal it but he didn't welcome the suggetion at first.  Apart from Khatri, there were others also interested in this Umbrella.  At the Interval point, someone stole this Umbrella from Binia.

Heartbroken Binia filed a complaint in police station, khatri's house got searched but police couldn't find umbrella.  Villegers felt that they insulted Khatri and so they decided to invite him as chief guest in annual Wrestling competition.  During the competition, people came to know about the thief, then they punished him by boycotting him.  The thief became lonely, realized his mistake and when movie ends was forgiven by little Binia.

*My Comments

*Vishal Bhardwaj earlier directed Makdee beautifully.  It was also a film made for children, but the script and direction was so good that it entertained everyone equally.  This time Vishal is not in full form as a director/story teller.  It seems like he lost his interest halfaway while making this film.  Though this effor should be appreciated but it could have been much much better.

Shreya Sharma as Binia is also just average.   We have so many terrific and of course 100% natural performances from child artists in near past(Cheenikum, Dharam n of course Black) but Shreya could not match any of them. Either it's a case of wrong casting or director's incapability to extract performance from her.  But same director pulled out maha-impressive performance from Shweta Prasad in Makdee, that too in double role.

Best thing about movie is another breath-taking performance from Pankaj Kapoor.  He is easily one of the finest actors of Indian Cinema.  This year he already gave award winning performance in Dharam, now Blue Umbrella. Just amazing.

Cinematorgraphy is very good.  This movie is visual treat to eyes. Watch out for the climax scene.

Music of the movie is perfectly suits the mood.  Gulzar's lyrics are just perfect.

Entire movie is in Hindi but with Himachali tone, n you have to be very alert to catch every word.  The movie is in Hindi but they have used subtitles throughout the film.

*Verdict

*We have Chak De India also this week and it opens with lot of positive reviews.  This movie is targeted mainly to children but they would be more interested in watching Shahrukh over Pankaj Kapoor.  God bless Multiplexes so that people dare to make such movies but I suggest you to wait for DVDs this time.

Vishal is such a talented director that we should make compulsory for him to make one children movie every year.

God Bless All
