Imagine that you are going to your favourite holiday destination. You have practically nothing to do for the next 24 hours before you reach there. What do you do? Well, you can read a book, talk to co-passengers, play games/puzzles but the most discerning would love to listen to music. That is what I also do. Holiday is the time to catch up with all the music that you have listened to and want to listen to. Why not start off with a list that gives you some choices? Here is a small list –

1. Main zindagi ka saath nibhata chala gaya – Hum Dono

Don’t be surprised to see a song from the black and white era in this list. Sung by Rafi, this song is still recalled by people of all ages. A soldier on the battlefront is looking ahead to what life has to offer to him. He does not care for the destruction. He is content with all that he has achieved, thinking that it was all with the grace of god. The sound of music from the cigarette lighter is the most captivating part of the song.

2. Aashayein – Iqbal

Few would disagree with me if I say that this is an inspirational song. In a way this song encourages you to dream and live your dream as well. If you have watched the movie then you would be transported back to the farmlands on which Iqbal grew up, dreaming to be the best bowler in the country and represent his team against the best from the world. Fight against all odds is what this song asks you to do, and if you follow the message you will eventually be a winner.

3. Afterglow – INXS

Now who said that I can’t add English tracks to this list? Even though I don’t have its MP3, thanks to HIT 95 FM I have heard this song so many times that I have almost memorized it. INXS is a relatively unknown name in India but this track has made their album Switch a runaway hit. Notice the way it builds up to a crescendo and stays there for a few spine-tingling moments before it gradually comes down. Close your eyes and you are drowned into the melody of the track. Amazing work!

4. Roobaroo – RDB

Critics call this song one of the best compositions of AR Rehman. It is indeed correct. Listen to this song on the radio or on your MP3 player, every time it sounds as mesmerizing as you heard it the first time. I am finding it difficult to express how good it feels to listen to this song. The way it talks about a man on a crusade, his battles, his victories combined with a good background score makes this song worth listening to more than once.

5. Maine tere liye hi saat rang ke sapne chune – Anand

There is something about our dreams that we want them to be true. Here the protagonist talks about his dreams and desires from life and doesn’t even let us know that he is going towards the sunset of his life faster than anyone of us. Anand’s chirpy nature comes right in front of your eyes even as you listen to this magnificent creation of Salil Choudhary and sung by Mukesh.

6. Ab ke sajan saawan mein – Chupke Chupke

Ah! Another Hrishida gem! The beauty of this song lies in its https://lyrics. Listen to – Tere mere pyaar ka yeh saal bura hoga, jab bahaar aayegi to haal bura hoga… You can almost visualize the playfulness in the eyes of the singer. She wants to flirt with her beau and yet she has to hide it from the rest of the world. And she does it with this masterstroke of a song! Brilliant!

7. Lets make a night to remember – Bryan Adams

Listen to this track for its sheer melody. That initiation of the guitar, the slow build up and then the explosion of music as Bryan Adams celebrates his love through the medium he knows best – music. Absolutely brilliant! I don’t know how many of you would call it a song for easy listening; I certainly do, so I have included it in my list.

8. I still haven’t found what I’m looking for – U2

Few would know that this track was used at the beginning of the movie Runaway Bride. I first listened to it in the U2 album The Joshua Tree. A man is looking for his love, but he finds it difficult to search the right one. And when he finally finds her he just could not stop himself even though she runs away from him.

9. Chup chup ke – Bunti aur Babli

Few songs in recent times have been as melodious as this one. Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy turned this romantic song into a hummable tune with finger-tapping beats. Its length is no issue at all, as it goes past 7 minutes because in that time you will hear the best possible combination of Indian as well as western instruments giving the song the right rhythm and beat.

10. Right here waiting – Richard Marx

A heartbroken lover still seeking to get his love, this is how he calls out to her. He knows that he and his love are poles apart, but still he is crazy for her. He knows that he did wrong but he is ready to make amends for it, only if he can get his love back! Sheer brilliance is the way I would describe the way this track has an effect on you.

I want you all to suggest more songs. Hit the comments page, it is all yours.
