Hello to one and all here. This is my first review on this website or for that matter anywhere else.So please bear me..;) If you find it disinteresting, you need to blame one of my friends who sort of

referred me to this site. Nevertheless comments good or Bad are more than welcome.

This phase had been kind of a base for me as I grew up watching and recollecting all these serials & characters. And you might be knowing that the child remembers the most, good or bad while he is growing up than when he is grown up.;-) doesn’t he?

Most of the serials and names of the characters I assure will give you some feel of nostalgia if you had a chance to watch TV during those days.

1) Yeh Jo Hain Zindagi:->

First and always that comes to my mind is Renu played by Swaroop Sampath, now wife of Paresh Rawal... though not a very good actor but somehow very well suited in this role as THE not so clever but pretty housewife of shafi inamdar with Shafi being the scapegoat everytime. Not to forget her Gubru brother palyed by Rakesh Bedi(he was one among the three in Chasme Baddoor alongwith Ravi Baswani and Farooq Shaikh) making his Jijaji crazy all the time with rakesh’s good for nothing lifestyle. The role of Boss played by satish Shah and his interations with the neighbours, Bhattacharyaji and his wife had its own funny side. This used to be shown on Friday nights. First of the sort of Sitcoms on Indian TV targeted at the increasing middle class audience.

2) BODYLINE;->

Being myself a cricket lover and also reasonably a good player at that, this was the first serial which gave me insights into the minds of a player. The way the England captain, Douglas Jardine builds up the team and approach for beating Bradman’s Australia in the much acclaimed Ashes. He did succeed in his efforts but not long till the Aussies discovered their solution for BODYLINE.I have seen this serial(all 13 episodes) only once when I was a Child guess 12-13 years old but can recollect the three characters around which it revolves as fresh as Asha’s voice. The three characters were Douglas Jardine, Harold Larwood and Don Bradman. How Jardine finds Larwood running on the streets of London selling newspapers and how he makes him the most dreadful bowler in the history of the game. No wonder Bradman being the cricketer he was provides the best answer for the rest of the series and the next series. That is why I believe he is comparable to Sachin or vice versa who made Warne and others alike realise that greater challenges bring the best out of the best.

3) Vikram aur Vetaal.:->

Shown on Sat/Sun evenings. The first appearance of Arun Govil(Vikram, the intelligent and courageous king) on the small screen. Till that time we used to read such stories in Chandamama and imagine the characters and events. The picturisation of the stories on the small screen was good enough to glue people to the screen.

Vetaal----->Vikram tu Bola aur main chalaaa........

3) Mr. Yogi;->

Played by Vikram Gokhale who visits India to marry an Indian bride but gets into trouble everytime he meets a new girl as he goes with some premonitions before meeting the girl. It was a wonderful series of 13 episodes with Yogi being the perfect and humorous character of a foreign based Indian. I am sure most of todays bachelors(especially from IT) would be able to relate to Yogi.

4)Rangoli:;>.

All time favourite of a Family. Shown every Sunday morning. Thanks to this program alongwith Vividh Bharathi, Ceylon(remember Binaca then Cibaca Geetmala by Amin Sayani in his peculiar style) and many more, I started liking movie songs and music. Everytime there used to be some new song which I had never heard or seen before and each used to be masterpiece. What it encouraged me to do was learn more about these songs and movies from my parents and sisters. Somehow I preferred Rangoli over Chitrahaar and Chayageeth.

5)SportsTime:-> by Dr. Narottam Puri

Narottam Puri is considered as the first person in Media(excluding in Print Media) to host sports shows on TV. This program was a half an hour compilation of many of the sports across India and World over preceding week. My favourite part was the ending part of the program called Lighter Side of the Sport.

6):->Nukkad

Aziz Mirza at his best, a platform for all stage actors to perfom on the small screen.

7):->The World This Week

Hosted by Prannoy Roy, tour of events across the globe in 1 hours 10-11 pm with a special. Prannoy along with Vinod Dua and nalini Singh need to be cheered again and again for creating todays Rajdeeps and Barkha Dutts and their programs.

8);->Meri Awaaz Suno

hosted bu Annu Kapoor, one of the neat and interative music competitions. The best part was watching some of the music directors and singers who we had only heard till that time on radio. Sunidhi Chavan won one of those competitions. What a true winner she is ..Kaisa Jaadooo daala rey Sur mayee hain ujala rey.....

9);->Mungerilal ke haseen sapney

i am sure most of us have a perfect picture of raghuvir Yadav in their minds when they just hear the name mugerilal... .An awesome actor.. Watch him perform with the invisible Tushaar kapoor in GAYAB. rajpal Yadav seems to be in the same genre. Just a look at the face of these actors is enough to make us laugh.

10);->Lifeline

A slow and tense rather serious true serial, though very sensitive handled very nicely..Mr Ak hangal(Itna Sannata kyun hain Bhai) played the role of Dr Rao who alongwith with group of young doctors show us how tough a Doctor’s Life could be. in spite of this, their personal problems get the last priority. Liked the role of makrand kulkarni, the favourite student of Dr. rao.

);->somehting *Aasmaan something

I donot remember the name of this serial but this was a very popular love story where the girl and boy run away from their home with the help of the girl’s friend, Shehnaz(played wife of Satish shah in Ishq Vishq) and struggle to convince their parents and end up with never ending troubles. Shown on Sunday mornings at 10.30 am. This serial has a nice starting song.. Kabhi Haadhson ki dagar miley Kabhi Mushkilon ka safar mile ..yeh chiraag hain meri Umra ka .Mujhe manzilon ki talaash hain..

Due respects to many more programs like Karamchand, Udaan, Rajani, Kakkaji kahin(Om Puri as Bihari leader), Wagle Ki Duniya, Honee Anhonee, Ulta Pulta, Jaspal Bhattis’ serial name not getting now wherein in one of the serials he approaches a bank for loan to buy petrol for his scooter. A Fundu misdirector.....

These are the some of the original firsts in the Indian Television history which after liberalisation (thanks to the Manmohan+PV) paved way for todays kaun banega Crorepati and KSBKT and KKZ and KSuman,etc.

Am sure they will be worth the BUY if possible to buy so. Most of them are still owned by Doordarshan. I guess...
