Singer sent by god to Earth - K J Yesudas
Sep 30, 2008 04:48 PM 14143 Views

"Sorry, here entry is restricted only for Hindus. Please dont mind but it is our ritual"

This was told to Yesudas when he went to Guruvayoorappan Temple before several years. Yesudas is a cosmopolitan who believe in all gods and was shocked to hear this. There will be several others from other relegion who will be visiting Guruvayoorappan daily. But he is a public figure and hence his entry is restricted. He reacted "If I sing sitting outside, lord krishna will come with me. He is the one who will be with some one who loves him"

And the irony - the same temple used to play the devotional songs sung by the "Christian" Yesudas daily inside the temple but his entry is restricted!!!

Yesudas is one of the most precious gift sent by god to us and post 60 also his voice has become sweeter than before. A man of principle - never compromised for success, he came up from a very humble background and had only music with him.

On personal front

Born on 10/1/1940 at beautful Fort Kochi as son of well known classical musician and stage actor Sebastian Kunju Kunju Bhagavator.

He studied in well known music college and later on trained by maestro of carnatic music Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagawatar. He is married to Prabha and has got three sons (Vijay Yesudas is also a lead singer in Malayalam now). He has got a "divine" touch in his sound and he is often referred to as "Jim Reeves of India"by music admirers over the world. I will take you through some of his hit songs in Hindi

I) Gori Tera Gao Bada Pyara - (Chitchor) -Great work form Pandit Ravindra Jain - and this song was an old time block buster where in the beautiful voice of Yesudas gained a permanent stature among the hindi music lovers. He never imitated any of the singers and developed an individual style.

2) Jab Deep Jale Ana - (Chitchor) -Another song fromt he same movie and Yesudas was quite comfortable with classical songs as he is well trained. And he gives a tough time to the co singers in duet.

3) Mohobbat Bade Kaam Ki Cheez - (Trishul) -Voww, I want to showcase this song as here my idols sang together - Kishore Kumar and Yesudas!!!!! Might be the only one song where in both these stars sung together. And look at the twist - Kishoreda who always used to give voice to Amitab this time sang for Shashi Kapoor and Yesudas sang for Amitab Bachan. This song is a wonderful because of many such coincidences.

4) Sunayna (Sunayna) -Another song which will take you away from this earth and keep you among clouds. When Yesudas says Sunaynaa ---- Sunayna---------- I feel like floating in the air. Words interdict me from expressing my adequate sense of appreciatio to this song.

5) Madhuban Khushboo Deta hai(Sajan Bina Suhagan) - Usha Khanna Song where is Yesudas used hight pitch, low pitch and added lots of intensity to the emotional content of the song.

Well the list is never ending - he had even given voice to Sanjay Dutt in Daud (Oh Bhavre---) and still continue to surprise us with surprise come backs. He is actively invovled in all the social issues in Kerala.

He is one of the rarest play back singer who can conduct a classical music concert with perfection as of today. I have seen many maestros in classical music concert who cannot sing play back songs in Films. Here lies the versetality of Yesudas whose range will surprise all of us.

Kudos to this towering personality and we are proud of having you with us!
