Its difficult to name ten best male singers of Hindi movies, but I will still try as there are some very good singers who have touched my heart, so they must be good…
1.MUKESH- First name that comes to my mind, who can forget his soulful voice…even right now I am listening to one of his non-film album.He had extraordinary grip over words, how to pronounce a word, that too in any dialect.My all time favorite from movies is kehte the teri yaad mein nazaron ko hum bichayenge… and in non-film Sundarkand by him.
2.MANNA DEY-There is a such a long list of songs from him that if I start writing it, I will cross review’s limit of words.His much famed qawwali’aye meri zohra zabeen…”, pyar hua ikraar hua, pyar se phir kyon darta hai dil…and ‘zindagi kaisi hai paheli hai…are *my personal favorites.Among non-film albums, he has done great job in *Madhushala.What great testimony can be given for him than this, once equally great Mohammed Rafi remarked to journalists’you listen to my songs, but I listen to only Manna Dey songs”.
3.HEMANT KUMAR-he had such a soft voice more or less like JagJit Singh, yet different.One of the songs I like immensely is bekraar karke humein yun ha jaiye, aapko hamari kasam laut aaiye…one of his sad song *jaane woh kaise log the jinke pyar ko pyar mila, humne to jab khushiyan mangi, kaanton ka haar mila…is *evergreen.
4.MOHAMMED RAFI-How could be the list complete without him?He has sung the maximum range anybody could sing and for large number of stars.He has captured all the moods anybody can have, his voice was often referred to ‘voice of God”.Not many people know, during recording of the song in Baiju Bawra, ”o duniya ke rakhwale, sun dard bhare mere…”, *he started bleeding from his throat, but carried on…a chaos was created in studio and that too was recorded accidentally in the song which remains still in the original audio aired by AIR and can be heard.My all time favorite is *chaudwin ka chand ho ya aftab ho…job bhi ho khuda ki kasam lajawab ho.
5.KISHORE KUMAR-He was a multitalented artist, but no denying the fact that he was a great singer first.He was different from all the voices mentioned above and made a mark for himself.With his deep impactful voice, all his songs are gems…my favorites being badi sooni sooni si hai zindagi….and ruk jana nahin tu kahin har ke…
6.SONU NIGAM- inspired by Rafi and initially singing like him, he has tried to carve a niche for himself, he has to go a long way before he reaches these above mentioned legends level, but for sure he is a very talented singer.Great music has to be made for him, he can do wonders, he has that element in him, but the way songs are made these days , I am afraid if he will get good opportunities…I like one of his number very much…dheere jalna dheere jalna dheere jalna……
7.SHANKAR MAHADEVAN- He needs no words to describe his talent, if somebody listens to his *breathless *number, he/she can have no words what a singer he is, he has immense potential.
8.JAGJIT SINGH-Although Jagjit has confined himself to Ghazal singing only, but there is no denying the fact that he is one of most popular singing names of India.His ghazals mesmerize us, make us cry and take us into a fantasy world.Singing and expressing the emotions in lyrics is a difficult job, but its child play for him.My all time favorites are zindagi se badi saza hi nahin, aur kya jurm hai pata bhi nahin…and badla na apne aap ko jo the wahi rahe, milte rahe sabhi se magar ajnabi rahe…
9.AMITABH BACHCHAN-Although he is not a professional singer, but whatever he has sung has a different feel to it, just like his persona.I like rang barse….and main yahan tu wahan…never has been this type of song, such mood ….has been heard from Bachchan.I also like *mere paas aao mere doston, ek kissa sunaoo.n, *these songs can never be sung by anyone except him.
10.YESUDAS- He doesn’t sing for Hindi movies anymore except a hindi album sometime back…but who can forget his…gori tera gaon bada pyara and janenam janeman tere do nayan…his voice looks like coming from another world.
I also like Roop Kumar Rathod and Talat Mehmood.
