**Have a red nosed, *cough*, but happy New Year**

“My dil goes hmmm, ” I sang as the anthem of the year played on the radio. Correction: attempted to sing. I was traumatized to discover that I was opening my mouth but no sound was coming out. * “My dil goes hmmmmm, ” * I tried again, and this time a croak, sounding suspiciously like a toad emerged from my mouth. I acknowledge that I don’t have a spectacularly beautiful sounding voice, but the last time I’d checked in the mirror I was a human and not a toad. And then a huge light bulb switched on in my head. Owing to my allergic reaction to dancing in a blanket of snow without putting a coat on, and my depression at not being able to watch Bluffmaster because of the horrendous snowfall, I had developed a fatal disease *(also known as the common cold:P) * This disease had attacked one of the most significant things in my life: my voice.

Not being able to think with my vocal chords (as I usually do:P) *, I decided to rack my brains *(shock horror), and reflect back on one of the most eventful years of my life.

What has 2005 been for you? (A pain in the…) What have you achieved? *(Er…) * What have you been proud of? *(I’ll get back to you) * What’s been the most memorable experience? *(Falling down the stairs 5 times) * What do you wish you hadn’t done? *(Fell down the stairs 5 times) * These are all questions, which we ask ourselves at the end of every year, in order to make our New Year resolutions.  We are determined that the mistakes we made during the previous year, will not be repeated in the next year, and our accomplishments will flourish even more.

So with no voice, a red nose *(yes, I resemble Rudolph:P) *, and watery eyes, I bring you into the new year cheer with some songs and resolutions.

~January~

Balle Balle: When I first saw this song, I couldn’t remove my eyes from the wonders of an indoor Earthquake, caused solely by one man. But then I looked past the picturisation, and discovered that I was in love with this song! Sung by Sonu Nigam and Gayatri Iyer, I love the way both the melodies and the tempo vary through this medley of Punjabi songs! The lyrics are slightly random, with some glimpses of the usual “girl-guy” fight, but I think its a perfect song for a wedding!

A resolution: Have you ever wanted to recall a day in your life again and again? A diary is a fabulous way of doing this; it’s great fun reading through it, and really helps you to see how you developed as a person!

~February~

Woh Lamhe Remix: According to public opinion, this was the song of the year, but I disagree *(as you will discover later on) *. Still, this song was sung gorgeously by Atif, and remixed superbly by DJ Suketu and is a great club number. I adore the lyrics of this song; they are truly amorous and sentimental! Most slow songs don’t really work out as remixes, but this one opposes that and proves to be an excellent song.

A Resolution: Learning new skills are always a virtue, so this year, why not try to adopt a new talent? You could try learning a new instrument, starting up an alien sport, or even learning a new language! Whatever interests you…try it out!

~March~

Jaan meri jaa rahi: This is one of those songs which I can listen to a million times, and still never get tired of! This one was sung in the lilting voices of Udit Narayan and Anuradha Paudwal, and has to be one of the most romantic songs of the year. The lyrics of this song are absolutely beautiful, with my favourite line being kya mohobbat hai, kya kahaani hai, samne mere meri, sapno ki rani hai. Although slow, this song will keep you engrossed until the last note.

A Resolution: Do you ever think that you work too hard?(If not then convince yourself:P) This year, find some time to ‘just chill’ with your friends(that cursed song had to find it’s way into my review *looks angry)

~April~:

Socha Na Tha: On the first listen, I didn’t find this song too beguiling. However, owing to pursuance from a very persistent friend of mine *(hmm Ashi, who could that be?) *, I listened to it again and again, and today it’s all I can listen to!:-) I really like the melody played by the flute throughout this song, and the lyrics are adorable. Overall, this song, sung by Suresh Sadhilya, is one of the sweetest made this year.

A Resolution: I think one of the best things ever is meeting new people. Have you worked with the same person for five years and not said a word to her? This year, you could try making lots of new friends, because somebody very wisely said that you could never have enough!:-) But don’t go walking up to a random stranger who you’ve never seen before, or you may freak them out.(Or vice versa).

~May~:

Kajra Re: Nearly every review I’ve read on this topic has had this song in it, because it has to be the most sung along to number this year! I personally didn’t see anything enthralling in 30-something Ash shaking her hips, but its surprising the number of guys in the cinema who were positively riveted by it. However, the song was very cool; another one with the traditional feel, the melody was being hummed at every corner you turned. Sung in Alisha’s sweet voice, with some random men “ooh-ing” and “ah-ing” in the background, and including some fast tabla beats, it was all anyone could do to stop themselves dancing to it on the spot.

A Resolution: May; the dreaded month of exams. Have you ever crammed for an exam the night before, because you only just realised that you take that subject? A very useful resolution would be to make sure you study properly for your exams, stay confident in yourself, have faith in God and then nothing can stop you from achieving success!:-)

~June~

Piyu Bole: How could anyone resist this melodious song in Sonu Nigam’s and Shreya Ghosal’s gorgeous voices? Having a lovely gentle piano melody throughout the song, fabulous romantic lyrics and the occasional snippets of Saif’s arrogance(we love him for it), this song will probably be one of the most remembered of 2005. Especially for those infatuated with the movie!(You know this one’s for you Ashi:P). I love the way this song maintains a traditional feel to it, most songs lately have so much westernisation in them.

A Resolution: Do you ever feel that you don’t spend enough time with your family? I really love my family to bits, but everyone seems to be really busy with everything. This year, I’d love to have “family time” every week at least so we can share more Kodak Moments!
