MUST MUST MUST watch movies!

This was supposed be a piece of writing on my 10 favourite/best movies. But then, I came across a review by premjit, where he had written that all this best 5/worst 5 thing was sounding more and more like 'gossiping old housewives of 70's'' and, though I have no idea what gossiping housewives of the 70's sounded like, I wasnt too keen to resemble them, so I thought I should scrap the idea of writing this review.

Suddenly, lightning struck in the sky, a heavy storm lashed out andall the bells in the nearby temple started to ring! In a flash of genius, I thought why not write a review named ''10 movies you should definitely watch atleast once!'' That way...I could fit my favourite movies in and still not sound like the GOSO70's! evil grin

REALLY think you should watch these movies atleast ONCE in your laugh..er...life :D lol

(Yes, majority of d movies in d list r comedies,)

These r in no order, as ranking them was beyond my capacity.I just keep switching em over n over again.

#Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron

2 people, living in mumbai city (of the 80's), photographers by profession, accidentally capture the murder of the police commsioner on their cameras. They, being really curious, try 2 search for the body and manage to find it too. When the murderers come to retrieve the body, dey return empty handed. D bribe-taking greedy architectwho was behind the murder sends people to get the body from the photographers! Add in a rival architect and an opportunistic journalist who talks of being against the corrupt system, and actually wants 2 make more money out of this opportunity n what u get is...NOT a serious parallel cinema, but a true blue comedy which still manages to comment on the corrupt system and be a thought provoking 'comedy! (Never thought such a thing as a thought provoking comedy existed before watching JBDY) MUST MUST WATCH.

Actors: Pankaj Kapoor, Om Puri, Naseerudding Shah, Ravi Vaswani, Satish Shah, Neena Gupta.

#Chhoti Si Baat

A very simple and elegant movie from the 80's again, where the absence of glamour and glitz takes the movie to a level of realistcness which was completely lacking in contemporary cinema . Amol Palekar secretly likes the girl next door, but being a very shy person, almost devoid of any confidence, and lacking any knowledge of a science called flirting, never manages to even drop a hint. Whereas Asrani, a friend of the same girl, is the proverbial new-age guy of the 80's, driving his own scooter (HAHA) , knows how to make his presence felt and maintains a patronising look towards Amol. One day, Amol, dun remember how, meets an ex armyman who is actually a famous figure who kind of gives personality building classes to people. Under his guidance, Amol Palekar, manages 2 come out from his shell and beats Asrani at his own game. Starting with buying himself a new bike! (haha) The gradual change in his personality, how he wins the girl over, not by singing and dancing around the trees as is usually done by bollywood heroes, is amazingly visualised in the movie. The 'Rules pyaar ka superhit formula' could have taken a few tips from this movie, rather than from the internet, as it seems!

Actors: Amol Palekar, Asrani, Ashok Kumar

# GOLMAAL

This is an extremely hilarous movie! Though you should watch this movie, let me warn you, uncontrollable laughing and stomachache caused due to it will be impossible to avoid. Its about a guy who goes for an interview for a job, where the chairperson(?) of the company is a main with his own weird notions. Not weird in a negative sense. Weird as in he has his own ideas of good and bad. For example: according to him, a person without moustaches can simply NOT be trusted. I think you get the idea.

To get the job, he puts up an act of being one really seedha saadha bhola bhaala person (now how do I translate that into english?) and he gets the job. Now to live his life, he has to live like 2 people, one himself and the other who works at the weird man's company. So he lies to the boss that he has a twin brother who's actually the exact opposite personality of what the boss likes, and to make matters more complicated, the boss's daughter falls in love with the fictitious twin brother, who's actually the guy's real self! phew! I gather that I wasn't exactly describing the movie clearly, so you'll have to watch it to understand. But its an awesome movie. If you live in India, and havent watched this one, well...I don't think there is someone like that.

Actors: Amol Palekar, Utpal Dutt

# Chupke Chupke

A girl goes on a trip with her college friends, and stays at a guest house (?) where due to some circumstances, she mistakes a botany professor staying there to be the watchman. She obviously, realises her mistake, they fall in love and get married. She challenges him to fool her Poojjjya Jijjaji lol ( sister's husband) who she thinks cannot be fooled by anyone in the world. So, the professor, her husband, dresses up as a driver and lands up at jijaji's place. What follows is rip roaring comedy and basically lots of fun!

I know every dilaogue of this movie too, if you are wondering.

''Pneumonia ko Pa-nemonia kyun nahin padhte? 'D-O' doo hai to 'G-O' ko kya padhte hain LOLOL''

Actors: Dharmendra, Amitabh Bacchan, Jaya Bacchan, Sharmila Tagore.

#Chashme Baddoor

I saw this movie a long long time ago and don't remember the story enough to describe it here, but its a must watch movie. Not entirely comedy, not entirely serious, its a wonderful blend.

Actors: Farukh Sheikh, Deepti Naval, Rakesh Bedi, Ravi Vaswani.

Which writing titled 'must watch movies' would be complete without atleast one quintessential bollywood fillum? Hence, I will add one (though I fear the backlash!! you'll understand, when I name it!)

here goes:

#KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI:

hehe,no wait! Don't kill me! I am not saying that this film is in the same league as the ones mentioned above. But you should watch it once just to get the taste of a complete bollywood movie where the lead pair(s?..lol) dance around trees, where time passes but age doesnt set in. Where best friends turn lovers..lol....what the heck...just watch it coz I say so. End of discussion. :D

Actors: Shahrukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Kajol.

#Dil Chahta Hai:

Now this is a movie which doesn't have a strict storyline with a start and end point, but still has a certain something about it, that takes it away from mainstream masala bollywood, simultaneously doesnt make it alien to India at all!! It is gives a glimpse of todays youth. I don't mean the whole GenX is facing the exactly same problems! Or that every young person in India drives a Merc and is as rich as Aakash Malhotra, BUT at the same time, its at the same level with us.

Not a novel movie in general, but looking at it as a product of the Indian film industry, its certainly a deviation from the run of the mill movies.

The next 2 are my mom's additions:

# Ek Ruka Hua Faisla

Dunno much abt dis 1, but am including it in d list, cuz mom says its definitely a 'must watch' (for her!!lol, dunno abt me)

Whats amazing is that the whole movie is primarily based on 1 scene. A room where 10 people, members of a jury are trying to decide whether a boy is guilty of murdering an elderly woman. The movie starts with all 10 believing that the boy is guilty, with all circumstances pointing toward that. But the lawyer, manages to prove that reality is otherwise, and one by one everyone changes their mind. At the end, there is absolutely no one left who thinks the boy is guilty. The surprising thing is that all through this movie, you don't feel bored at all, the debate which takes place is really
