I’m a movie lover, as an individual I’m just like a dust in the wind. Through watching movies I got to know what I’m not able to experience in real life. I reckon because of I am living in an oppressive lifestyle that’s why I long for seeking aesthetic sources. I believe beautiful things are helpful to release pressure. Otherwise why each time when I feel sad or disappointed, children’s appearances can easily lighten my heart?

Exams finished so there’s plenty time for me to watch movies. No too much up-to-date videotapes and DVDs in our library, ten movies I present here are what I’ve seen recently. They’re ranked by the time I watched.

  1. KES – Released in 1969, Billy Casper comes from a poor miner’s family. His older brother Jud Casper and he share a bed. At school he cannot concentrate on study and does badly. Jud is imprudent dude, after work he’ll dress up then hang on a pub with friends. Billy is a paperboy as well as schoolboy, he often steal milk and food from milkman’s car. One can easy assume that he’s going to grow up like his elder brother. Everything changed after he stole a book about birds. He caught a kestrel and trained it according to the book. Kestrel soars and brings confidence and hope to Billy. I love this film. When something inspires you your life will be brightened up.

Thanks the director didn’t select a little handsome boy to play Billy Casper. David Bradley performed an outstanding work in this film.

  1. The Even Chance -- Midshipman Horatio Hornblower played by Ioan Gruffudd. The movie started in a typical British rainy day, a small boat rowing fast towards a galley, the 17-year-old boy Hornblower accompanied by his sister to catch up the galley he’s going to serve. He looks childish and tense, he doesn’t really know once he got on board the tough and distressful life begins.

As fresh he was teasing by seniors, unlike other professions, every trick on the galley may imply death. There’s no female appearance in this movie. The theme reflects ONLY STRONG SURVIVE, strong consists of intelligence, courage, dignity, determination, loyalty and friendship.

The movie directed by Andrew Grieve, produced in U.K.

Genre: Adventure/War

Runtime: 93 min

  1. Arizona Dreams – Have you ever seen Jonny Depp’s movie? It’s the first time I saw his performance, although before I did see some of posters of his cool look. Does age a matter of Love? What are your childhood dreams? What happened to those dreams? Jonny Depp plays Axel Blackmar (read Axel twice, does it sounds funny? I laughed and laughed when they calling his name A-X-E-L) anyway, this is a love story about a young man and an middle age lady, plus her step-daughter, love triangle and flying dream. It’s a comedy with a sad ending.

Faye Dunaway played the gorgeous middle-age lady and Lily Taylor played the stepdaughter.

  1. Coal Miner’s Daughter – Adapted by country music singer Loretta Lynn’s autobiography. Released in 1980. Sissy Spacek played Loretta, Tommy Lee Jones played her husband Doo.

Loretta was 13 or 14-year-old when she got married with Doo, they were kind of fell in love at first sight. Actually little gal was convinced by Doo that the feeling they’d got was love and they should got married. At age 18 Loretta became mother of four children. She sang when children cry, can you imagine how shocked I was when I heard her singing “In the pines, in the pines, where the sun don’t ever shine…” Doo realized his little wife is talented and got her a guitar as anniversary gift…

I almost remember every scene of this film. Everyone did perform excellently. Loretta’s father played by Levon Helm. He’s a perfect father figure. An under poverty family but life is full of love and laughers there.

  1. Jet Pilot – Released in 1957, Directed by Josef Von Sternberg. It’s a love story between USA Air Force Colonel Shannon and Soviet pilot Anna. It’s a good chance to see various types of old jet planes.

  2. The Horse Whisperer – This is absolutely haunting film, It released in 1998. After watched the movie I started to search on imdb.com, found out that the main actor is Robert Redford, and he’s in Out Of Africa as well.

  3. Brassed Off -- refer to the other review of mine pls.

  4. Grease – Played by the Cool King John Travolta, all about high school romance and marvelous dances and popular songs. Released in 1978.

  5. The Full Monty —Released in 1997

  6. Billy Eillot – refer to the other review of mine pls.
