My list may be different than most, but there will definitely will be some classics as well! The list is in no particular order.

  1. Red Dawn (1985)

A story about what would happen if the Soviet Union invaded America, Red Dawn took America's Cold War fears and ran with them. Right Wing and pro military to be sure, but a great movie nonetheless, Patrick Swazye and Charlie Sheen were in this film. Trivia Moment: This was the first movie in America to receive a PG-13 rating.

  1. The Godfather(1972)

This movie can be called the godfather of gangster movies. A brilliant screenplay based on a brilliant book by Mario Puzo, this movie has it all, you feel like you are a fly on the wall of a Mafia kingpin's house. Also great performances by everyone, especially Al Pacino and Marlon Brando. I really liked the ending, nobody messes with the Corleone family.

  1. Star Trek II

The Wrath of Khan (1982) I am a Star Trek fan, but I had been slightly disappointed in 1979 when Star Trek: The Motion Picture came out, it had no pacing and was too long. So I was very pleasantly suprised when Star Trek II featured a quick paced story line and a awesome script, it really was like Moby Dick in Space... And Ricardo Moltaban was good as the villan, Khan. Also I loved that the writers dared to knock off a major character, it was exciting!

  1. New Jack City (1989)

This was a gangster move from the Afro American perspective, which starred Ice T, a controversial rapper at the time (he has since utterly sold out) and Wesley Snipes as the drug lord Nino Brown. This movie captures the period of drug induced violence of the urban American late 80's and early 90's perfectly, as well as the mood at the time, it is simple fare, but engrossing to me nonetheless.

  1. Transformers the Movie (1985)

I know, you are thinking why a kiddie movie? I can't say why, I guess because it had a pretty big impact on me as a kid. The Transformers was a daily TV cartoon show that featured robots that turn into vehicles. What was cool about Transformers the Movie was that the movie killed off 75 percent of the characters, including both of the leaders! Also the movie screams the mid 1980's it really brings me back to that time.

  1. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001-2003)

All three of these movies were great! They were not like the books exactly, but they kept all of the important things in, and the F/X effects were eye popping! I thought Peter Jackson was nuts to take this project on, especially how crazy fans of the books get, but he did a great job. The actors also did very well.

  1. Dumb and Dumber (1991?)

This is one of my top 3 funny movies. Starring a Jim Carrey in his comedic prime, along with Jeff Daniels, this movie has some of the most side splitting comedic moments put to film! People seem to think that with a title like that, that it would well...be dumb, but the comedy actually smacks of intelligence, it is so well timed!

  1. Terminator 2 (1992)

This movie blew me (and millions of others) away with its special effects, and with its pacing. Directed ably by James Cameron, this movie also featured a good time traveling story, and a winner takes all match between two powerful machines. The acting was good as well, even Arnold did well! Even better was Robert Patrick as the T-1000.

  1. Dirty Work (1994)

Few have heard of this film starring Norm Mcdonald (A Saturday Night Live alum) but it is one of the funniest movies ever made. It is not highbrow by any means, but it is hilarious. All they do is play dirty tricks on people for revenge, This film has more funny moments than I can count, but I think when he tells the fat guy to moon the people then stops the car right afterwards is my favorite. (''Uhh he was supposed to keep going'')

  1. Ace Ventura, Pet Detective

This was Jim Carrey's first hit, and made movies like Dirty Work and Dumb and Dumber possible. His way, way over the top performance was so stupid it made you laugh for hours on end!

I guess that is 10 of my favorites, thanks for reading!
