GR8 SUSPENSION/ Poor Engine

Previously I had a Ford Ikon.. then at that time, I always use to look on every safari with a ''WAO, What a car'' in year 2000.


Then in 2002, I finally bought a Tata Safari 4x4 EX for Rs. 9,58,000 + insurance +reg. after waiting for 20 days , which Tayal Motors (dealer) said it will take to bring the 4x4 EX version.


I should not say this ... but from the company itself, the new safari had ''RIGHT SIDE POWER WINDOW'' not working. See the quality of electricals. LOL LOL !!!.


THE PHOTO ATTACHED TO MY PROFILE IS THE ORIGINAL PHOTO OF MY SAFARI. I had also put 6 Big Lights on the Roof of Safari. It looked like a demon. and had got painted the bumper to blue and got fitted 2 (13'') subwoofers fitted to the car. (In All, I had made it a DEMON of the ROAD. hahaha)


I have also driven Scorpio, Qualis, Chevrolet Tavera, Ford endevaour, sumo in u.v.s yet. so my review will be in comparison to those Utility Vehicles.


WAO !!! ITS SUPENSION IS GREAT. In our U.P., it always feel like OFFROAD on the roads, they are very bumpy. u know. But, in Safari, you can go 80 or 90 kmph on the worst (I really mean WORST) on those bad roads, where you can hardly drive your sumo or scorpio to 40 kmph, otherwise their rear leafsprings will come out. LOL I mean, SAFARI's suspension is worth the reason to buy it. Its on the softer side.. And rest of the comfort will be added by the Front and Rear seats (with Armrest), which are extremly comfortable.


ENGINE : Very Bad, Even the Indica's and Santros used to overtake me very fast. On the speedometer , I went to a maximum of 149 km/hr. thats also when the GreaterNoida expressway was on the downhill side. Generally, its maximum speed is 140. Also, the engine starts getting heated very soon, if you push it above 135 km/hr for long duration.


A.C.: The worst I have seen. Now Dont say, it's size is big so A.C. wont work so well. Even Mahindra Bolero's A.C. id double better than Safari's. And Forget about A.C. if you are stuck in heavey traffic Jam in Delhi when tempreature is 40+degrees. The A.C. commits succide at such times, I mean, you wont beleive, the compressor gets cuts automatically in such a condition. BRAKING : Forget about braking Safari when you are above 100 km/hr . However, its far far better than Scorpio's braking (which has been derived from Atlas Goldline Cycles) LOL. But, on the left side of 100s (below 100 km/hr), the brakes work very well. I haven't driven the new petrol safari yet equipped with ABS. Hope TATAs have done something with braking.


SAFETY: Man, I was a dada of the road while in safari. Its a very very safe VEHICLE ( for front collision) from the THUK point of view (I mean collision point of view. hahaha). I have read in AutocarIndia magazine and various others also that cornering is very dangerous in safari because of its soft suspension. You wont believe, I had done 180 degree turns many times on this car, and the Anti-Rool bar handle it very nice. Its got a nice balance. (Compared to Scorpio, Tavera, Qualis and Sumo). ...... Once My TATA 407 had hit my Ikon on the trunk.. say just tuched the IKON, and the TRUNK of the FORD IKON disappeared.... In Safari, you dont need to worry about such things. SPACE : I used to do a lot of outing with my safari. very spacious. especially the folding rears seats make a complete bed in rear, and you can easily sleep in it.


4x4 OFFROADING: Dat's the purpose, I bought Safari for. Its a terrific Offroader. Its torque is just 180 kgm. But with a 4x4 Low lever, when you shift to 4L, its torque increases by 2.5 times. Then, it becomes a HUMMER. (I am serious). I have crossed a small river with BONNET LEVEL WATER . I am wondered how safari crossed that. Its a very very good offroader.


SALES AND SERVICE: I dont want to write about this because I think TATAs have the worst worst sales and service. The representatives there have no etiquettes to talk to the customers, as they are habitual to talk to the taxi drivers of the indicas , so they take the owners of the safaris also the same way. If you plan that you yourself will go to get your safari serviced, please dont buy it.


GOODIES :


1) Do you know, that Safari has a Hieght Adjustment system. You can raise the hieght of your Safari.


2) The storage space under the reas seat for jack. (You can keep afeem there. LOL LOL)


3) Electronic 4x4 system is good. (Only if you use is very less)


4) Good HeadLamps. (But, Fiat Palio's are far better.)


5) STRONG ROOFRAILS. You can load a Maruti 800 to its roofrails. Oops !!! I need to leave now as I have written a long review now. You can email me at contact@Amitscientific.com if you want to have more details about Tata Safari.
