My first claim for an accidental damage

This review is not to recommend anybody to have accident and get a very good backup from an insurance company, but unfortunately if this happens, one should have a good backup to support.


Day1: met with an accident, a hit and run case. A santro hit my new zen and ran away. Called police, but could not trace the hitter as nobody found having noted the car number. Since back side was totally damaged, I called my insurance company, Tata AIG (at their toll free no. 1600 11 99 66), for the procedure of claims and repairs. They took the details on phone and gave me the claim number. Requested then that please take it on priority and request the surveyor to do the needful by today or tomorrow (in any case it would have been 48 hours by then). And I was confirmed that it will be done by today evening or tomorrow morning. I gave them my mobile number and landline number. Till now I was very happy with the proceedings. I was promised that the surveyor will be deputed and he will contact within next 48 hours and will do the survey and same day the repairs will be done at their authorized workshop DD Motors.


Day 2: I waited next day till 2pm but of no use. Did not receive any call from surveyor. Called again the same toll free no. and got to know that till now surveyor (and was told his name also) has not gone to that particular workshop since he has to go to various places, so the moment he reaches there he will definitely call me. Asked them if I could get his contact number, but they did not have it. Requested them to give me workshop contact number and got it. Called at the workshop and was shocked to know that the surveyor came in the morning at 11am there, and went off in next 1 hour, but did not bother to call me. Luckily I got his mobile no. from there. Called him many times, but he did not bother to attend the call. Ultimately after 2 hours of continuous calling, he attended the call. Another shock came when he told that this call is not in his list. But when he checked in computer, the call was in his name. Since he was not aware he did not call. He was not too far from the workshop so requested him to come to workshop and I will also bring my vehicle there. He said it is going to be off now (at 4’o clock it is going to be off whereas his duty was till 6’o clock.). He told me to leave the vehicle at workshop and tomorrow he will attend to it in the morning. I requested him that I want to be present during this procedure for which he said there was no need for me to be present there. He will do the survey and workshop will decide the total expenses. Then company will decide what amount company will pay and what amount I will have to pay.


So the second day gone waste without moving an inch from day 1. But this proved that there was no coordination between Call Centre and Field Staff in Tata AIG.


Day3:Met Mr. Surveyor, got clicked my damaged car in his camera. Submitted car in the prescribed workshop, people there were very co-operative and decent. I was assured to get back my car after two days. The door and back right portion (I could not understand the name of the part he mentioned) will get replaced. Out of total expenses I will have to bear 25%. That means the final show will be on Day 5 when I get my repaired car back.


Day4: Nothing much today, as the car is getting repaired at workshop. And I am waiting for next day when I get it back. I have to go to collect my car in the evening of Day 5.


Day5:Called up workshop where my car was getting repaired at 4.30pm. got to know that it is ready. Went there, got a good reception, it was almost ready. Paid the amount I was supposed to pay (around 25% of the total cost involved, this amount depends on the age of car and parts – called depreciation).
