'Taare Zameen Par'** is an antidote to Mr. Darwin’s theory of Survival of the Fittest.

The theory of ‘Survival of the Fittest’ has made us all the slaves of our minds competing with each other and in the process forgetting the real meaning of our lives – which is to be happy, not to compete. Living doesn’t mean competing. Life is all about accepting us and those who are ours, the way they are.

“According to the theory of evolution, an individual born "different" than other individuals of the same species may hold an adaptation that increases the likelihood of long-term survival for the entire species. In other words, different is good. Variation is, in the grand scheme of things, crucial.”

Why does every girl want to look like Aishwarya Rai, every boy like Hrithik Roshan, why everyone wants to be Bill Gates; why can’t we be ourselves? Why do we have to underestimate ourselves and dream to become like what we are not, and probably we can never be?

This is the concept that sits at the crux of the movie.

The Story

Taare zameen par is a beautiful take on this theory of competition which is robbing us of our lives. This fact has beautifully been portrayed by indelible tale of a maverick kid - Ishaan Awasthi(played by Darsheel Safary) who is afflicted with dyslexia.

Idiot, duffer, lazy, crazy, moorkhshiromani – these are the names by which he is being called be his teachers and parents alike. He is bestowed with superb painting skills and an intelligent mind; but has difficulty reading alphabets and numbers.

Miffed by the flak bombarded on him, the little child hides himself in a shell; even wean him away from painting.

After all the brickbats, Ishaan finally find some love and compassion in Ram Shankar Nikumbh

(played by Aamir Khan). Nikumbh Sir helps Ishaan by making teachers and parents understand that his needs are different.

Finally, the movie climaxes with Ishaan winning the painting competition, getting appraisal from teachers, showing frastic improvement in his marks, making his parents proud and thereby overcoming his disability.

This movie will make you fall in love with your kids all over again.

Darsheel Safary

Darsheel as Ishaan over shadowed Amir Khan. Each and every emotion exhibited by this gracious child is worth applauding. He was his best in the song – Maa. He gave heart- warming performance in this song which exhibits a son’s craving for his mother’s love. The expression on his face after answering a question in Maths test (3 multiplied by 9 is equal to 3) is incredible.

My personal favorite: When the child bunks the school and gambol around in the unknown roads with his profound imagination enjoying every minute of his secretive odyssey.

Aamir Khan

Amir Khan has proved that he is not only a great actor; but a fantastic director as well. His directorial debut is refreshingly innovative and original which has the capacity to enlighten without being preachy.

Finally,

This is a call to all those who want to say goodbye to the mellow lifelessness, which has somehow, engulfed all of us in this fruitless circle which we call life.

Come one; come all… let us make this world a beautiful place to live in.
