Discovery of India. Review on Swades

Dear Mr . Ashutosh Gowariker

I saw swades today. First of all let me congratulate you on taking up a theme which has remained untouched till now and secondly thanks a lot for giving sharukh a different role.

Now about the movie...

THE GOOD

As I said this is a novel theme and is different from all the other garbage which are made into hindi movies these days. The changes that occur in mohan bharghav as a result of his ?discovery of India? has been brought out well albeit?verrrrry slowly!!!

Gayatri joshi as geeta has done well. That role needed a fresh and innocent face and she has played her role well

Sharukh has also done well in the movie. His portrayal of mohan bharghav is close to perfect?

In fact all the actors have performed really well. Kudos to you for choosing the right persons for the right roles.

About the music. AR Rahman has done a wonderful job. Unlike his recent works in the south where I felt he was composing for some Eminem wannabe this work has a touch of class.

The cinematography is also very good.

THE BAD

I feel you wanted this movie to be inspirational. To inspire a generation of young filmgoers, sir, lecturing is not the right way. Right from the start of the movie when geeta blabbers about culture and tradition when someone knocks her books down to the very end when she gives mohan this ?assorted India thingies? pack(boos rang out in the cinema whn this happened) there are umpteen occurrences of lecturing. To quote from one of the reviews in rediff. ? it sounded like a moral science class?.

Was there an editor for this movie.

Sir, I would like to know why the entire countdown of the GPM satellite launch was shown in the movie. That has nothing to do with the storyline at the very end. The movie felt too long so long that the last two songs were greeted with boos. Many of lecturing scenes should have been removed.

Again about the length. Mohan Bhargav was trying to solve too many problems. Sir the movie could have focused on one problem and length could have been shortened.

THE UGLY

I don?t classify anything in this movie as ugly..but gita giving sharukh the box came quite close to qualifying for this.

Sir, on the whole to sum up- The movie could have been much better!!!
