Give him the credit. He knows women; a rare species; quite impossible to define (ladies! excuse me please, that is just a saying I keep hearing often). Better still Sidney Sheldon has STUDIED women. Imagine weaving amazing tales on all his lead roles, taken up by women and women only.

(I stick to my promise. The last time (that was a long time ago) I promised my male counterparts that my next review would be a dedication to them. This review of mine I dedicate it to my male counterparts in MS.)

This time I wax eloquent on the novel “Stars shine down”.

Come hither

The stars beckoned her near

Coaxing her to speed up

To be ready and geared up

Kindled by the burning desire

She soared higher

One jolt out of her dreams

And the stars shone down radiating an unusual beam

‘Stars shine down’ is the tale of a beautiful young lady who moves on to be an unyielding power in a male dominated business enterprise brushing away the depressing past that threatened to suppress all her dreams and fantasies. The smart but naive girl is quick to learn, quick to think and quick to react. Undeterred by unusual happenings she hesitates not to take a risk. With the guidance of her one true and loyal friend Howard Keller (another victim to her irresistible charms) Lara sets up buildings, every piece of land she steps on.

Lara Cameron, the lady business tycoon otherwise known as the iron butterfly, emanates to the others a stoic, stubborn and bold personality that gives her a foothold in the male dominated real estate industry. But inside is a heart of gold, a generous mind and a sensitive personality revealed to very few and the very few are left wondering what a strange lady she is. This devastatingly beautiful lady steals the heart of many a men but is still in pursuit of that one soul, the prince of her dreams.

Her fleeting affair with Paul Martin (the smart lawyer with connections in the underworld) is enough to land her up in trouble but his generosity, sympathy and love for the butterfly saves her skin (or should I say her wings). The iron butterfly is ready to go to any heights to keep what she wants. She probably is aware of the saying ‘survival of the fittest’, and fit she remains (most often leaving others in a fit of rage) until its time for climax. Her patient wait for her Mr. Perfect and the passionate pursue of her love, Philip Adler, thereafter is quite amusing.

With a promising career and her love beside her she is almost on the brink of leading a picture perfect life when the world around comes crumbling down and her past deeds (good or bad) strike back with a vengeance. She is knee deep into financial problems and her personal life does not head in the right direction, what with a husband compelled to sit at home with his hand injured and future as a musician bleak.

This time I stop with my description of the story except for a few good comments on the author’s style. His style and easy flowing language has never failed to impress me. One admirable thing in every novel of Sheldon’s is the vivid description that transports you to the place of your imagination or perhaps his. The story starts off with a sad note and later on traverses through a path of success and glory. If you are an avid reader of Sidney Sheldon novels then you will find nothing new in the storyline or the language or the climax either, nevertheless the novel is interesting and worth a read.
