''With Great Power comes Great Responsibility''. This very practical and extremely powerful statement is once again re emphasized in Spiderman 2.
The story is a perfect sequel and starts exactly from the point where Spiderman 1 ends.
Spiderman's college friend tries to avenge the death of his father. The story ends giving a clear indication of a possibility for Spiderman 3 too, where his friend discovers the asstes of his father who was killed in Spiderman 1.
This has clearly shown the director's ability to keep the spirit moving and expectation from Spiderman alive even at the end of the movie.
Spiderman 2 has taken slightly different approach from Spiderman 1, which is totally unlike from all other super hero sequels, take for example Batman 2, Superman 2 where it is just another sophisticated psychopathetic maniac which the super hero kills only with little difficulty.
Spiderman 2 is bit different. There is a very old proverb in ancient tibet which preaches the fact that to be a great warrior the ulitimate battle to be won should be the battle with one's own self, fight with ur own fears, your own bad habits, your own shortcomings. If this is won u can eventually defeat anything in this universe.
The movie closely resembles this fact, around 40% of the movie spiderman fights with his own desires and ambitions, fights with his own selfishness. He cannot brush away his love, desire for his love and ambition to get over his childhood sweetheart. With this he becomes a slave for his own emotions,and slowly starts loosing his power.
At the mid of the movie there is a peplxed nature shown within spiderman where he tries to find out that why suddenly he is no more a spiderman. The way he regains and understands that sometimes for a cause you need to sacrifice even your greatest desires, is worth noticing.
At the end however he gets his long desired love but only after sacrificing the same love.
As far as technicalities and special effects are concerned , I will give more marks to Spiderman 1 for that. The concept of fusion for creating free and immense energy with a device attached to a person's back , makes him a monster, is really little difficult to digest. Here the story confuses people, about the how creation of energy fusion stuff, human with octupusses arms.
His friend who vows to avenge the death of his father from spiderman has really not much to do in the movie other than becoming the financer for the fusion-monster project. However at the end he still keeps the vow, so we guess might have to wait for Spiderman 3. :)
Spiderman's sweetheart is as usual confused till the end of the movies as to what is correct in her life. I guess thats what is the character is ...
Special effects are not upto the mark except for a train stopping scene which is worth watching.
I give full marks to the acting and strong human spirits shown in the movie.
This movie can be comfortably watched for once.
